    Keeping a Mantis shrimp

Just an observation. When I walked into the room that Lola’s tank is in she was at the far corner of the tank away from her burrow. My good looks must have frightened her because in a flash she was across the tank and into her burrow. I know how fast the damsel can swim but there is no doubt...

    Clams as a bio filter

Well in my opinion if they can remove ammonia from the water then that would reduce the overall live rock needed to handle filtration. FYI the only actual need for live rock when it comes to filtration is if you are looking to reduces you nitrates through anaerobic bacteria even ammonia...

    Random Ammonia Spike?

faulty test kit or test if all other factors involving your tank are the same Also before this the lights in the tank had been off for 4 days prior to help with a small cyano outbreak. this would have only raised your nitrates if you had cyano die off

    Tangs susceptible to ich

Tangs have a thin slime coat, I don't believe you can build up an immunity to a parasite, I think the genetics of a fish determine if it has scales or not and the thickness of its slime coat. But then again i guess over years a species can develop a thicker slime coat as a way of protection...

cured live-rock- do i add now or after tank has cycled? without gong into a long drawn out post. if the live rock you will add has bio filtration bacteria colonized on it in numbers that can handle your initial bio-load you may not see a spike in ammonia or nitrites and you may not see an...

    to much or not

A skimmer does not usually produce skimmate continuously, but will react to any dissolved organics. I would be interested in reading the info you have stating to much skimming is detrimental to corals
