    Starting Over

OK, I pulled out roughly 10lbs of the LR that was covered with the red algea, and set it into my 30gal. Figured I'll clean it up tomorrow, and did a major water change of about 15 gallons. Needed to add extra distilled due to the lack of LR though. Cleaned out the filter, and cleaned up the...

    red algea on sand

Do a search here for red algea, I had that problem long ago, and sill do for now. It's mainly caused by topping off with tap water. You can blow the algea away and catch it in a net, then simply toss it out.

    Starting Over

I was thinking about scrubbing the LR, but I have some pieces with very small feather dusters that I'd like to keep if possible. I'm most likely going to use the secondary tank to hold most of the LR untill I get the main one to settle.

    Starting Over

I've done this for years, but decided to post here because I realized I didn't know WTF I was doing aside from wasting a lot of money. Anyway I'm going to basically start over possibly using some of what I have allready. This time, I'm going to stop assuming and get it right by asking questions...

what tank size for a whale?

All you need is 1 gal. of water so you can imagine the experience while watching Shamu Cam He's an active lil guy too :happyfish Otherwise you'de need to obtain wildlife permits first before even thinking about a whale tank. The permits alone could run upwards of $100,000

    Calling all trigger owners/previous owners!

Back in the day I was able to keep a juvi Clown Trigger and a juvi Niger Trigger with a Yellow Tang, Tomatoe Clown and never seen a problem untill the Clown Trigger learned how good shrimp tasted. They are the more aggressive triggers, but as long as they are fed they'll leave other fish alone.

    Aquariums and Taxes?

I've never claimed a hobby before myself, I was just wondering if anyone went through the drama and how the outcome was. I heard that some people do claim Aquarium expences as a hobby, but I've never met or spoke with one of them.

    Bristle worm hitch hiked..

I have a few bristles that are at least 3" long, and I can't say any of them have been a burden, but I definately know when something died due to the webbing. The lights like mentioned above are ok for FO tanks, when you have coral you will want something better. At the most, I've been able to...

Just wondering who here claims their Aquariums on taxes as a "Hobby", also wondering if there are special forms needed or if it's just a basic save the reciept sort of deal?

    S. Fla coral exchange

Is this going to be a monthly thing or just a 1 shot deal? What is going to happen when a trade goes bad for someone? How about equipment trades as well? I know I'm late asking these questions, plus I've nothing to trade as of yet, but if it becomes a regular event I'll be planning on attending.

    No3 Nitrate problems

Actually I used to stirr it up just so it would look good from time to time, but the vacuum actually did 100% better. The activity in the tank now as compared to last week's stirring is like night and day. My filter is a canister, and it has an attachment specifically for vacuuming, so same...

    Chemicals for Dummies…

After testing for say Calcium (being mine is low right now) I read the bottles of B-Ionic Chemicals I have. Following the basic directions on the bottles will help you either raise or lower whatever you need. Study up on what different corals require before you buy them, then you can also...

    No3 Nitrate problems

Edited my last post~ [hr] Yes the guy told me the tank would turn black, but I didn't think he meant it would cloud up like it did. That was my only confusion, but I tried it anyway. lol Lesson learned there now. My only dread is pulling out the LR to clean under there. My plan was to leave...

    No3 Nitrate problems

Luckilly I've only got a damsel in there who did fine, but with as cloudy as this got, next time I might just have to put him into another tank for the few hours. He hid in the rocks all day, but I suspect he had a rough time anyway. After looking this morning, my mexican has apparently been on...

I wish I knew about battery operated items that at least provide oxygen. Hurricane season can be a [hr] when you have no power for weeks on end.
