    What Is Going On?!?!?!

IMO I would leave the Ph alone until the cycle is complete. You will do a few water changes between now and then anyways. Just my 2 cents.

    What Is Going On?!?!?!

Your tank is most likely cycling which is normal. The rock was uncured and is causing the affects. Or it was cured and there is now some die off. It will all work its way through the cycle.

    Walmart RO Water

Most wal-marts around here have a machine on the ******** store front wall. Just walk in wal-mart then turn let or right and look on the wall for a stand with empty water containers and a machine. Normally between .30-.35 per gal.

    cycling: shrimp or damsels???

Go get three Jumbo frozen shrimp from the grocery. Test the ammonia before you add and then test it each day to see if your levels are rising. I put two into a ten gal QT and the ammonia level was off the chart after like 4 days. I then removed the shrimp and waited for the cycle to complete.

Never used one but I have a refractometer. I threw away my hydro as soon as I saw the difference. It only takes a few seconds to get a reading. Just my 2 cents worth.

Do I have to have a lot of livestock/LR?

Just get yourself about 40-45lbs for $100-130 and you will be fine. I might not look that pretty since you will have so much open space but the filtration is what you are interested in, right?

    Don't wnat algea!

RO/DI units are a good choice if you need to do constant water changes for many tanks or if you just have a big tank. They will produce between 25 gal/day- 60 gal/day $200-300 but they require plumbing, water container, and excess removal of bad water. Just do a search to see if you are...
