What amount of current for acropora?

They usually enjoy strong random alternating currents. How fast does acropora grow? Could you refer to a single species of Acropora? I cannot give you a correct answer with the word Acropora, as some corals (such as an A. microphalma) will grow over an inch a month, while others may only grow...

    Electical Currents and Corals

Recently I attached a 30 gallon refugium to my 90 gallon sump. After finally picking up some chaetomorpha from Dave B., I went to homedepot to buy a 60wt 3,300k Halide. I set it up, and all went well for the first few days. I then come home one night to find the ballast and bulb in the sump. The...

    purple monster

Yes, the purple monster is an extremely slow growing coral. Since I got a frag of it in may (from Carlos), the overall coral has grown about 1/4" on the branches and about 1" of encrusting growth. It isn't the most colorfull coral out there, although it's a great addition to those who enjoy...

    plate coral

Which species of plate is it? Heliofungai or Fungai? Has it been damaged or stung by any nearby coral? Does this "brown stuff" appear to be algae or cyano, or does it seem like a discoloration on the coral? When I bought an Orange Fungia sp. from the LFS, I noticed that one portion of the coral...

    Linkia

How old is the aquarium and what does it contain? I couldn't say if I would recommend a "linkia" to your tank without knowing more about your setup, including how old is it, how many pounds of liverock are in the tank, what filtration you're using, water parimeters, and other livestock. Also...

    metal halide bulb choice

I'm quite fond of the 10,000k Ushio's. The following site may be of some use to you. It goes into detail about the spectral analysis of metal halides. http://www.personal.psu.edu/faculty/...omparison.html Take Care, Graham

    mh bulb life span?

What type of bulb are you running and which ballast are you using? As Gina stated, the 20,000k bulbs generally last around 6 months and 10,000k bulbs last around 10-14 months, depending upon the ballast being used. Graham

    Do acropora require MH?

On his website his last entry was in June. Does anyone know if the acro is still alive? It can take a long time for an acro to die due to light starvation. Brooklyn Johnny's (his tank was referenced earlier in this thread) tank is a very nice one but he will be the first to tell you that...
