also remember that a 20 gal sump will not yield 20 gal of extra water volume, when you add baffles and skimmer etc. it robs you of that added space/volume. Go as large as you can, anything is better than nothing.
Yes I have a refractometer. I think its the safest way to go just to be sure. I think Beth has said before, once I slowly reach 1.009 and then wait 2 weeks after I see the last spots on the fish, then slowly bring salinity back up.

No reason to get nasty. I was gonna ask same questions. New fish need to go in qt and you said you just wanted to ensure you gave the flame what it needed; that would have been found in research first.
Did you let your saltwater mix atleast 24 hrs before doing water change? That ensures not only proper mixing/dissolving, temp matches display, and S.G. matches. Tangs don't take well to ANY changes and can cause stress. If they get stressed they are more immune to getting sick.
