Yea they are load for the first 1-2 weeks then it will quiet down, I can't hear mine anymore either, of coarse I also run a mj 1200.

I don't think you'll be able to keep a clam with PC, maybe in the top half of the tank but i don't know, I have PC myself and I don't think I would try it. Maybe someone else has done it and can correct me.

Yea, they are nice but pricey, I have seen them here for $150 recently.

I don't think it'd be a waste, but what did you want to be able to keep? It would probably allow you to keep lower- mid light SPS in the top half of the tank. Depending on the money have to spend, you might want to look into a T5 or MH fixture to keep the more demanding SPS corals. A 4-6 bulb...

I don't think you could ever over do it using PC's, they aren't a very strong/intense light.
