    Help with a rebuild!

Hi! Nothing too much going on around here. I got tired of looking at the cyano patches on the sand bed in the 150. Since there is nothing in it, I decided to chemiclean the tank. Then I will do a buncha water changes. Cyano is gone. I like to let the stuff stew in the tank for a good while and...

    Plug and play systems

I like the look of these also. They are very sharp looking. If I were in the market, I would buy one and I believe that I would be able to stock the system nicely. My tanks are nothing special, as far as corals go, but they are nothing to sneeze at. Some of my nicest tanks were simple PC...

    29g biocube, attempt number two.

If they grow close together, you can "rake your finger tips through them swiftly. They will pop right off! I used to have a group and I loved them. They never took over any corals, they only grew/attached in spots where nothing else was. I had some tank issues and I lost them. I have not been...

    Plug and play systems

Instead of running filters, why not run a sump setup? I, personally, don't care for running reefs with filters. The filter cartridges get gunked up too quickly. I like the set up of a filter sock much better. I will admit that the "filtered" tanks are a lot quieter than sump set ups (most of...

    Help with a rebuild!

I agree with ya Sip. I know the LEDs can be great, they were just not great for me. I realize they are not the same but at this point, I am very wary of spending $$$ on something that has already not been great for me. Once bitten, twice shy. I can't personally recommend anything that I don't...

    Plug and play systems

I don't know of any plug and play systems that are that size, only smaller nano systems. I think there are always drawbacks on equipment but there is ALWAYS a way to change things. You can upgrade or customize anything. I always think "wow, that's $$$" but then I buy my own tank and I am more...

    Plug and play systems

They are running full reefs, though the size of fish is limited to smaller species. To keep anything like a tang, one would need a 6ft tank. It's not about water volume, it's about length of tank for the tang to grow and live healthy... they need the length to swim. I have seen nice looking...

    Plug and play systems

There are a few set up at some LFS around here. They are nice looking but terribly expensive. I will say that as far as plug and play systems go, this thing really is plug and play. This time around, they have thought of everything. The lights are all individually controlled and timed, all...

Well I took a chance on the cheap chinese equipment and love it... You took a chance... not so much. Well, you win some, you lose some. :-/ Now you know I guess? Do the other lights work well enough? What is the significance of the UV bulbs? Do they help growth... like sun light? Or is it just...

    Help with a rebuild!

And lastly- Just another little weekend "Renovation" project. This one was easy. I just wanted to add a little bit of interest to a VERY dull wall. I like our house but it is VERY vanilla. We are architecturally challenged in the fact that there is nothing "fun" or "detailed" about this house...

    Help with a rebuild!

While I was challenging myself, I managed to spy 2 of these little guys... It moves like an incredibly fast snail, and yet it's nothing like I've seen before. It's very see-through and has a weird yellow "blob" where it's stomach ought to be? Is it a snail without a shell?

    Help with a rebuild!

Here are some pictures of a few things I snapped last night. Nothing special, I just added some pods to the fuge, and some "reef stew". I dunno what these weird little buggers are but BOY, are they hard to get in focus. Out of 102 pictures, this was the best I could do! Want a challenge... try this!

    Help with a rebuild!

Why would you turn the 60 solana into a refugium. LOL... It's such a pretty tank... Why hide it? I saw a NON-Photosynthetic tank yesterday at the LFS. It's the smaller version of the solana. I think it's about 30 gallons... maybe 40 total volume. It always catches my eye. They guy is running bio...

    Help with a rebuild!

Acrylic- I am not really arguing here. You can call it what you want. This light fixture I had was made for this tank specifically, so if it as indeed too much light, then it's on the manufacturer. I cut down my light and did actually start from no light, and slowly brought the light up over the...
