    What are These???

My 46 bf has just finished cycling and I'm preparing to do a 40% water change tomorrow. I was just looking at the LR - there is green and purple algae beginning to grow on them. But as I was looking at the rock, I saw some little critter running around on it!! It's about 1/4 in. in size and...

My youngest son is 9 yrs. over 14 and will be getting married less than 2 months from now. Atfer a 17 yr break since my last SW tank (55 gl), I'm setting up a 46 BF reef and fish tank. No fish yet, it's just cycling. I was born and raised in So. California, but now live just outside of...

    Sand Depth and Other Questions

I have 45 lbs LR in my 46 BF. Last night I added 55 lbs. aragonite sand. Tonight the tank is about 85% clear. Does the sand bed need to be a uniform depth or can it vary? I haven't adjusted the sand yet. The depth ranges from 1" to 2" on average. In a couple of areas it's as deep as about 3...

    ethics in a fish store

I agree with Eaglephot, you did your best to be open and honest about the situation. I, too, have a rather sensitive conscious that I have to answer to, but I wouldn't lose any sleep over this one.

    people in CA

You may not be able to visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium very soon, but definitely put it on your list of things to do. It's the best aquarium I've been to. And that was over 20 years ago. My kids were 1 1/2 and 3 at the time. Of course they can't remember any specifics, but they do have some...

    Cycling - Now What?

I added 46 lbs. of LR to my 46 BF last saturday. I added two shrimp on Sunday. This evening the readings are: Temp. 78 SG - 1.024 PH. 7.7 (no sand yet) Ammonia - 1.0 Nitrite - 2.0 Nitrate - 2.5 Since the ammonia is at 1.0, I've removed the shrimp (Yech...). Now What? Do I need to make water...

    The Moon Poll

IMO it seems to me that in the middle of the cold war and space race, if the US was really faking it, the Russians should have been able to figure it out. For example, the Russians should have been able to tell if supposed radio communication signals were or were not really coming from the moon...

I got a new dog!! YAY!!

We have 3 mastiffs (1 Neopalitan - 165 lbs., 1 Bullmastiff - 135 lbs, and 1 English - 250 lbs.). They all live inside with us. We have a fenced in back yard that they get to run around in, but I couldn't imagine having them live outside all the time. It wouldn't be fair to them or the neighbors.

AHHH!!!! Live rock shattered bottom of tank!!!!!

Sorry to hear to read this. I'm sure your son was devistated. However, I think it's great that you're involving your son in your hobbies/interests to the extent that you are. How old is he? Keep doing these things and you'll have a close relationship for years to come. Over the years, my son and...

    Cycling Questions

I'm just getting my 46 gl. BF started. Today I added 45 lbs of LR to the tank (1/2 Tonga, 1/2 Fiji). 1/2 of it is cured, the other 1/2 not cured. Nothing else in the water yet. Water temp. 78; sg 1.024. LFS said the uncured rock will start the cycle with nothing else needed. Your thoughts? If...
