We cycled both our 120g and 29g with one shrimp. They both cycled in approx. the same amount of time and it went much quicker than expected. Personally I think 5-6 is overkill. Although I did get funny looks at the store when I bought one shrimp.

xcali1985---It looks good! I haven't seen ours "fly" at all. He climbs all over the tank though. Seems like it stays in one place for a couple of days, then moves. It is amazing how it looks small when it is curled up and then opens up to the size of a dinner plate! I love watching it crawl...
