    Octopus tankmates

I haven't been on this board for a few weeks and I apparently missed the latest octopus thread. Since it's locked I thought I'd just throw my experience and observations in to try and put everyone on the same page. Specifically Abdopus aculeatus (Indonesia) aka "Bali Octopus" aka "Bi-pedal...

    first cycle

Live Rock always looks dead after it's cured for a few weeks. Underneath that lighting it should color up in a month or two. We seeded 100lbs of very dead, dried out, bright white live rock with about 15lbs of cured live rock. 6 months later and almost all of the rock has a very thick dark red...

We had an orange linkia that did great for about 6 months. About half of a leg ended up missing but it appeared to be regrowing. And then one day, there was an orange mushy spot on the sand. Didn't really fall apart. Had a huge gorgeous red serpent start that did crumbled over several days...

    Great Dane Puppy

I can second the harness comment and the elevated bowls. Harnesses are made for working dogs, to pull weight. Have you seen the video of the old lady flying away with the Great Dane pulling her along? The elevated bowls help keep them from having a distended belly. We haven't bought any yet...

2 new things on live rock

It's a stingy-celled animal. Like a jellyfish that grows out of the rock... a micro-anemone perse. They sting fish. They can sting you too. They are pests and will spread like aiptasia.

Anything you do at this point is just going to cause further stress. Make sure your water parameters are all in check. That's about it.

2 new things on live rock

I'd say the yet-to-be identified things look like probably colonial hydroids. If they look like brown palythoa's but they're about as big around as a pencil lead, that's what they are. You should pull that rock out and put super glue gel over them or use a chisel and chip that part of the rock...

    Is this crab reef safe?

IF it's a fiddler, it will need access to air. They're terrestrial, live on the beach. I don't think that's actually a fiddler though. Always best to lean toward caution. The pointy claws mean business.
