    10k vs 6k

Entirely up to you. Lower spectrums of light look more yellow. The 10 and 20k lights will look more white and the added blue actinic gives everything the glow. I will say that lower spectrums can lead to algae problems. That is also contingent on many other factors though. If you like how...

Tips On Mostly Dead Bubble/How To Bring Back To Life?

unkown cause of death to clown goby

Well it won't kill them and if all else fails you can feed them. But its just like feeding feeder fish to saltwater fish. Since when do saltfish in nature eat freshwater fish? I would invest in some frozen brine shrimp and i know clowns will eat dry small pellets and even flakes. Once...

Tips On Mostly Dead Bubble/How To Bring Back To Life?

Interesting. No i didn't clean off the skeleton. There is a good amount of tissue left and it was inflated some this morning. Im always stirring up the "junk" in my tanks so i can do that daily now i spose. His mouth is open and exposed. I guess since the mouth is still left there is some...

unkown cause of death to clown goby

Well it could be a number of things. First i would cut the blood worms out of their diet. Salt fish don't eat blood or black worms in the wild i don't think. Maybe i was that. It could of also been the ich. Ich is tricky. Since you have a 10 gallon tank i would suggest sticking to the 2...

    One perc still not...

Does he eat at all? Its good the female eats it may encourage him to eat since he sees her eating. Fish will cruise the system and pick food out of the water column as well. Mine do it all the time but its certainly not enough to sustain them. I give him another week or so before he either...

    Do I need a UV light?...I have a ro/di system and a protein skimmer

No with a reef or even just live rock. From what i've heard there is entirely to much microlife that will get used throughout the tank by various organism, especially corals, that the UV kills off. So no. What you DO ABSOLUTELY need is QT tank, which i would go with a 30 gallon tank. Add that...

    LR from LFS

One more thing. If the rock is out of water for any extended period of time beyond a couple hours then there WILL be die off and you WILL most likely have some sort of readings in the big three tests well er maybe 4, ph,am,nitrite, and trates.... If you can keep the rock submerged in water or...

    LR from LFS

Well that all depends on the rock. And i don't know why its just nitrate and not everything else. I guess its all the extra "dirt" that gets added to the tank. Its just something i've noticed when i stocked my 12. How much just depends on the rock i spose. It isn't to bad. A small reading...

    10g

Uh yes and no. The 10 gallon tank is only 20 inches long so you need 18 inch bulbs. And 30 watts of flourescents or a dual 13 watt pc setup will be fine for shrooms. I have shrooms on the bottom of my 12 growing and spreading with the 30 watts.... Whatever you do end up doing don't plan on...

too high of a calcium level?

It will precipitate out of solution and you will definitely know it or mabye its the carbonates in the water that will.... Either way you'll know. :)

Has Anyone Ever Had Hairy Algae and Gotten Rid of It

Sailfins get what....15 inches? Melody you don't have traditional hair algae. Yours looks alot coarser and harder kind of like caulerpa. But either way its probably a nuisance and growing alot. As far as what eats it, not sure. Try maybe a foxface. Blenny wise lawnmowers and bicolors...

Im looking for a new coral

Don't mess with the anemone :) Besides if he lives in your tank you need the growth space.

    10 gallon sump enough??

Yah i agree i think a 10 should be plenty enough for a 40. But you may just want to spring for a 20 high for the extra water volume and a little added room to work with pumps and your skimmer.

Just had to share some pics of my new liverock!

Asternia star. The "polyp" looks like a rock anemone which is worse than aptasia. Not entirely sure on the genus denominations but rock anemones can spread just like aptasia and there is nothing short of removing them from the rock that can kill them. Even Kalk i've heard doesn't work.....

Tips On Mostly Dead Bubble/How To Bring Back To Life?

That i figured too. He looked like he had a few bubbles still left at the store. Since he's been in my tank he's inflated a few of them. They are a nice yellowish green. Which is a good sign he's still making himself his own food. How to get him to take the food i guess ill have to see when...

    red shrooms

Ah. If they were at the bottom then i wouldn't worry about it. Shrooms are very forgiving to alot of things.

oh no!!might lose power soon!! will this work?

Geez how cold is it there? Im in teeshirt and shorts here still.... I wouldn't worry about it unless it is out for longer than 3 hours.... I would definitely try NOT to boil your water. If you have a computer backup then try using that to run just your heater.
