    New And Confused

If you go with a sump then you midas well get a bigger tank and use the hang on and forget the sump until you get the hang of things. Fish will have more swimming room and the volume of water will be the same. Once you go sump then you have alot more evaporation, you have plumbing that can...

125 gallon reef/ diy stand, canopy

Actually the reef was well established in my 90 gallon. The reason why I have the reef seperated is because the star corral and polyps were taking off so hopefully they will just fight eachother on the right side and not take over the whole reef. I got the bigger tank because I want to get a...

125 gallon reef/ diy stand, canopy

The stand cost me $175.00 total and the canopy cost about $100.00. They are made out of oak except for some reinforcments inside the stand which are pine. The top of the canopy is hinged and can lift up. The corner trim is just corner trim and the top and bottum trim I routered myself on my...

    Looking for advice

Your don't sound stupid at all. The mistake that lots of people make is to take in all of this info and then when the LFS tells them what they want to here they throw all that knowlege to the way side and make a bad purchase. So you are really off on the right foot by seeking knowledge from...

    Looking for advice

I think that a tang in a 55 is fine. I would not pack the 55 full of rock and put in a tang and I would not put one in your tank until you are sure that your tank readings are at zero. Tangs need some good swimming room. I guess I should say that 4 ft of swimming room is good for at the most...

I left for 6 months on a ship and mentioned to my wife what a shame it would be if she let everything die and I spent the thousands I saved to restock. I got back and the tank looked wonderful. Now she loves takeing care of it. She still does not get the whole talking about aquaria all the...

    Seaclone 150 Breakin period

I just installed a 150 on my new 125 and within an hour it was working like a champ. i opened the cap all of the way and closed it about 1 turm or just when the output flow was constant all the way across the lip if that makes sense. I have bubbles if I get much more water flow than that but...

If you add iodine to increase algae then won't the algae in the tank increase also. the light increase may be enough to jump start the algae in the fuge.

    Dying macroalgae

Brighter lights may indeed help. How do explain an algae bloom when people throw on brighter lights. Now if your water is just extremely pure then the light may not, but since algae grows in the main tank then the difference is the lights. Do you have any algae in the refuge? You may have to...

Questions on new tank setup and LR

If you can get it. Lace rock looks really nice once the corraline and different algaes cover it and it is very cheap. If you can get some nice pieces of base rock then that is another way to go that is a whole lot cheaper. After some time no matter what rock you put in that is reef safe is...

    Dying macroalgae

Does your fuge look stagnant, if so you may have to add a little more waterflow along the surface. You could try a PC light from home depot or wallmart. They are pretty cheap light spectrum is not of major concern inside the fuge.

    Dying macroalgae

How does your main tank look? Do you have a problem with algae in the main tank? Your tank may be like mine and not produce a high enough bioload to support more algae than what your main tank has. I don't know if I would want to add stuff to increase algae growth when the whole reason for...

    Glass top for reef?

Glass tops SHOULD NOT BE USED ON CINCYREEFERS TANK. Now I have used acrylic tops on my reef for a while now and if you have ever seen pictures of my reef there has been no ill effects what so ever on my reef. I used glass for more than a year but went over to acrylic because of weight. I do...
