And while I sleep my Phosban Reactor goes nuts, need some serious Help~

Sounds like a reactor problem...not a Phosban problem. I'm only familiar with the Deltec reactors since that's all I've ever used. It is my understanding, though, that if too much water flows through these reactors, you take the risk of the media's getting flushed out of the unit...they need...

    Uv Sterilizer, Phosphate Reactor?

neither is a requirement...each is a solution to problems that arise in many reefs; but certainly not all reefs, I would only add either as a response to a particular problem.

    Phosphate filter?

newbienz...thanks for interest in my system. I posted a couple new photos in the sps thread floating around here somewhere...but, I'm delibrately not posting a lot of pics on any message board until my website comes on line in a couple of months. My camera equipment should be vastly improved...

    Phosphate filter?

NMreef... Nitrate (NO3), as you know, is the end product of the nitrification cycle in our tanks. It can only be broken down back into nitrogen gas (N2) by denitrifing bacteria. Thses bacterias are found in very low O2 environments like inside liverock or deep into the sandbed. These bacterias...

    Phosphate filter?

I've always thought it best to detail the theory behind the equipment rather than just add this or that as if it were a recipe. Refugiums, and the plants that go with them, are just another piece of equipment that have capabilities and limitations. If the aquarist is aware of these capabilities...

    Phosphate....my take on things

druluv....it depends what you are using the fuge for... can a reactor grow pods...no can a reactor reduce nitrate......no can a reactor reduce phosphate....yes, better than a fuge Many tanks are like mine in that phosphates are a problem (because of the high bio-load) and a fuge will not be able...

    Phosphate....my take on things

Trompet3... acrylic can be drilled easily, is light weight, is more clear than glass (even starfire), doesn't require a metal frame on large tanks, is cheaper............. but, it does scatch easier than glass. golfish.......I wouldn't say useless.. refugiums serve a similar function as the...

    Phosphate....my take on things

My closed loop intakes are drilled through the bottom of my tank and are enclosed in a cage made from eggcrate. These are located in the rear of my tank and are easily accessible for the occasional cleaning. If your closed loop goes into an overflow...it is no longer a closed loop.

    Phosphate filter?

Well... I will agree with your post Bob. I'm in complete agreement with your post. Plant life, both macro and micro, do comsume those pollutants... that ,when allowed to build in our tanks, will present problems. A refugium with harvestable plant life is a viable means of nutrient export. The...

    Phosphate....my take on things

Shouse... My tank is not glass..but rather, 1 inch thick acrylic. That photo above is of me with a drill in my hand drilling one of the holes for the closed loop. Past that...I think you got it.

    Phosphate....my take on things

Shouse... let me explain the closed loop this way... 1) first imagine a pump under your tank with an intake pipe and out flow pipe entering the bottom of the tank above. 2) Now, that outflow pipe is jetting all the water...but, it is too much all in one jet. 3) So, cap one end of the pipe and...

    Phosphate....my take on things

Shouse...there are no powerheads. This is a closed loop.... meaning that the water leaves the tank and then goes right back into the tank to provide circulation. My closed loop pumps are located underneath my tank. There are four of them... one for each of the four platforms...and each puts out...

    Phosphate....my take on things

Here's one when I was drilling the holes for the closed loop system. It gives you a look at the platforms before the eggcrate and loc-lines went in.

    Phosphate....my take on things

Well Melody, I made the platforms myself out of PVC. I actually combined the platforms into my closed loop distribution system. Here's a pick before I filled it with water. You'll notice the platform...but, also notice all the loc-line jets coming out of the platform. This way I could hide all...

    Phosphate....my take on things

    1) I would not remove a DSB unless there was a problem ocurring in the tank that I could not rectify with improved husbandry. 2) I would not reuse the sand...sand is too cheap not to replace. Some folks even replace the liverock. 3) Past that... it would be similar to last Sep. when I upgraded...

    Phosphate....my take on things

DSB's are really good at trapping and retaining detritus along with other wastes. Many folks, including myself, beleive that there is a limit to how much waste that the DSB's can process before they reach capacity and begin leaching phosphates and other nasties back into the tank. Some tanks...

    Phosphate....my take on things

Shouse...that's the hard part. There is no way to tell when it has reached its capacity. An increase in micro algae would be a good indicator though.....it all comes down to your eyes being the best test kit. For some tanks with little phosphate, it could last many months...others with an...

    Lets see some sps!

That's an Oregon blue tortosa grown from a 1 inch frag. Thanks for the kind words...but, there are lots of tanks that can compare or surpass mine....64ivy, Robz, mojoreef, playa, reeferonabudget, just to name a few. They are out there...you just have to look....I know that I do.
