Getting a tank for possibly a frag tank, or maybe just a large sump

Hey guys, i've got a 75 gallon tank with ~30gal sump. In the sump i have the skimmer in the first chamber, made a small fuge in the middle chamber, and my return in the third. I'm picking up a 55gal tank for pretty cheap and i'm not sure what my best option is to do with it. I have my mix...

ASM mini g skimmer is loud.

i did check the impeller when i was looking for what was causing the vibration. the skimmer is sitting in about 8" of water

ASM mini g skimmer is loud.

no, nobody had it locally, so i bought it online. But beyond the noise now it doesn't seem to be working correctly when i turn it on the water level gets too high and it fills up the collection cup with water. If i take out the tube that adjusts the water level in the skimmer it drops down to...

Drilling the back of a nanocube

i'm not quite sure what i said that would indicate otherwise about testing first, cause I did. I don't know what i'm going to end up doing with this, but i doubt that i'm going to replace the back pane of glass, this is probably either going to work, or possibly end up with a new tank, or i may...

Drilling the back of a nanocube

well, i went ahead and did this last night. I went to harbor freight and bought a "electric cutout tool" and a diamond coated bit. I came home tested it out on a spare peice of glass so i knew what to expect, then went at it. The first hole was made without a problem. So i took a break so i...

ASM mini g skimmer is loud.

i'm havent tried extensively to figure out where the humming is coming from, but i do know its not vibrating against the tank because i can hold the pump in my hand so its not touching anything and get the same noise. I took the pump of of the skimmer to do this, so i know it is just the pump...

ASM mini g skimmer is loud.

i also didn't mention, that it doesn't seem to be producing alot of bubbles. I have adjustment tube pulled all the way up, and there is only about .25" of bubbles sitting on top of the water.

ASM mini g skimmer is loud.

can anyone inform me a little more about this? I plugged in my new skimmer and the pump is very loud. its a pinwheel needle pump and when the venturi valve is taken off or i plug the air hose, it is silent. I'm starting to think that any pump with the air hose hooked up is going to generate...

Drilling the back of a nanocube

i havent taken the time to look it up yet. is the rotozip basically the same thing as a dremel, just bigger? can it be dialed down to be used on as many things as the dremel can? i'm probably going to go pick one up tomorrow evening

Drilling the back of a nanocube

i know a dremel is a good tool to own, which is why I won't hesitate to buy it, i just want to go the safest route, i really don't want to crack the tank. But I also don't want to be grinding away for an hour to get 1 hole with the dremel. I just bought a house a little less than a year ago...

Drilling the back of a nanocube

ok, thanks for the tips guys. i'll be on the search for the 1 1/2" diamond coated hole saw bit tonight. But is something that size going to be for a dremel? that link, like i mentioned, only had small bits up to 1/4", and i imagine the bigger ones would not fit a dremel.

Drilling the back of a nanocube

why do i need the dremel or rotozip? does it require higher rpms or something? and that link only shows rotary bits that go up to 1/4" doesn't seem right

Drilling the back of a nanocube

ok, so ive got everything I need, but now i'm questioning if it is actually acrylic or glass. I thought the front display was clear glass and the back wall and filter compartments were black acrylic. So I started to drill into the back, and after my first battery went dead in my cordless drill...

Drilling the back of a nanocube

thanks, I was going to make it 1", but then figured i would make it easier on myself by not having to drill 2 different size holes, thus needing to buy 2 hole saw bits. what about the design with the 90 on it? any thoughts on that?

Drilling the back of a nanocube

Hi, i've got a couple other questions for ya, Should I use a larger plumbing for the over flow than I am for the return? i planned on using 3/4" for the return. i'll be using a mag 2 for the return with about 3 ft of head with one 90 in there. is 3/4" fine for the overflow? I feel like it is...
