    turf scrubbers

I agree Flower, that's why I'm going to make the whole thing come out. I will be running it off the return from one of my tanks ( I have 2 tanks going into the same sump) and will diverting water into it, so all I will do is let the water flow by it instead of diverting some of it through it...

    turf scrubbers

From what I've read most people shut them down because they worked too well and not because they did not work. I hear that after a while of no algae most people start to miss it and see that their fish really like it. I have a hard time believing that you can't grow algae with this setup, but...

    turf scrubbers

ok as much as I would like to run out and get the few remaining supplies and go at it, I'm going to put things on hold until tomorrow so I can make myself clean up a good work space. I'm one of those "figure it out as I go" people for the most part, and am learning it helps a lot to slow down...

    turf scrubbers

I was going to look at the craft store as well, but I'm also going to keep my eyes out for something that can get a little rougher. People say they have a hard time getting it to the point they want. It's going to be easy to replace the screen in my set up so I might make a few of them and try...

    turf scrubbers

I used a sanding bit with my dremel to get it pretty fuzzy, but I think it might not be strong enough to really scuff up to the point that I want. It feels a bit fuzzier than it looks, but I'm going to keep looking for other cheap items that I might be able to use.

I was finally able to get most of the stuff today, hopefully I'll be able to get everything tomorrow without driving to far. It might be hard to find the right stuff to glue or cold weld the plexiglass together. If I have to I'll drive the 45 min one way to the Tap Plastics store. It might be...

    Converting 55g FW to SW

what type of skimmers do you have Dee? Lolits if you like the stuff (sump, skimmer), it might be cheaper to buy it from dee and pay for shipping than to get it new and if you get it online you'll pay shipping anyway.

True with the pods, but a 55 should be able to make enough pods for a mandarin if it's healthy enough and there are not too many other fish picking them off, I just feel it's a lot easier if they eat frozen. I don't know about the money part, I think it can be done for not that much $, but ya...

    Converting 55g FW to SW

ok so your getting a new tank and not converting your fresh water? I think you got it pretty good with the ats/fuge. Air and light are a big deal in saltwater. You should also look into a wet/dry trickle filter, but If you really only want a fowlr tank I think all of this is a little excessive...

    Converting 55g FW to SW

In a way the ATS is like a fuge with a light and macro algae, but it has a lot more air to it so you can hopefully grow turf algae that is a lot better than any algae you can grow in your fuge. I suggest getting some sand and rock, setting it up with your filtration and as much extra water...

    Converting 55g FW to SW

are you going to drill your tank or get an hob over flow? I might try to get a 29g (pretty standard size) for your sump and make it into a sump/fuge. I think if your going to do the work to get a return pump and figure out how your running your water out of your tank, you might as well put a...

Fresh Water Planted Tank - Just sharing

I must say that watching my brother make some of his cheap (but very nice setups) makes me want to see what I could do with a extra 10g and 50 bucks. He has a great tank using the cf from home depo and some dirt from the back yard he conditioned!

    Converting 55g FW to SW

you might be able to work with 450gph over all in the hole tank if you get the right angles on things, but I do think it may end up being a little low. I would keep the penguins to start with so that you can add carbon with them. I don't know if you need new bio wheels or can just wash them (I'm...

    new lighting

what are you going to keep? I had a current light with 4 t5s, 96w total on a 30g and could keep pretty much anything, but acros. 250w seems like a lot to me.

I agree with the c list part, I've got some of my best corals off c-list, but you might want to read up on parasites a little. I've also had to deal with flat worms and other things, ask him why he is getting out of the hobby or if he's just getting rid of things to start over. If you put the...

some one left the door open

In my experience once kenya trees are established in a rock it's pretty hard to get rid of them, at one point I was trying to get rid of the kenya trees in my old 29. I'd rip them out every month and they'd grow right back. I had to do hot water treatment any where I really wanted them gone. if...
