This is my first marine tank FOWLR and I'm really excited to have gotten both the tank and my wife's buy-in on the entire thing. It's a 125 w corner overflows and I'm planning on a 39 gallon 'fuge. Hopefully I'll have all systems running by June or July. I hope it works out.

Acrylic - thanks for the feedback. I was at my LFS tonight and asked if my guy was running a skimmer on any on the tanks that he has in the store and his personal tanks. He said for his fish tanks in both locations, he is not. In the store he has 1300 gallons running through 2 enormous...

I'll talk with my LFS guy to further understand his motivation. I'd think that he'd want to sell me the equipment; if for nothing else...to make a sale. Now I'm wondering if he's intentionally recommending that I dont buy it,,expecting that I'll have problems moving forward and need to buy...

Vice - nice set up. I see that your Fuge side of the system appears to have a sand aggregate. my lfs guy is talking about some kind of mud used in the bottom of mine. have you ever heard of this "mud" configuration; and would this change your opinion of skimmer vs uv?

Thanks all for the advice. Lex: The fuge will have plants in it and I think his point is that the skimmer will remove the primary source of nutrients for the plants. Does the idea of having both a skimmer and a UV sound reasonable? I'm willing to spend the money for both, but I dont want to end...

Thanks for the feedback. The tank is reef ready with 2 overflows. I was led to believe that with the refugium filtration I shouldn't need a skimmer. Not true?
