    low dKH

I checked my calcium earlier this week at a high 540 ppm. Today my pH is at 8.4. Im adding the reef builder by diluting it in a cup of water then adding it to the tank. I add about a 1/2 tsp a day which is supposed to raise it by .5 meq/L. The label says never to exceed 1.0 meq/L increases a...

    low dKH

Early this week I noticed my dKH to be very low 6-7 and have been supplementing reef builder to bring it back up. Now it is still fairly low at 8.5. Can a low dKH be the reason why some of my corals havent opened such as my zoos or brain (all the others seem fine and are opened)? What would...

Amazingly my pH stays around 8.2. I have LR with the majority of it being green with some purple patches here and there. My corals consist of mainly softies and a LPS.

    dKH/Ca readings

The dKH is actually low, as reefs should range from a dKH of 8.5 - 14.0. The test kit says never allow your dKH to drop below 6.0. I use Kent's liquid calcium and Seachem's Reef Builder for alk. Both of my test kits are made by Nutrafin.

    coral banded shrimp

It all depends on the individual shrimps' personality. I was skeptical about getting one, because I already have two skunk cleaners. I did anyway. He is big, I mean real big, and was scared he might cause damage. But I keep him well fed and there is plenty of rockwork for things to hide. He...

    emerald crab problem

I caught one of my emeralds crabs snacking on my GSP. Is this common behavior for these crabs? I thought they were reef safe. :notsure:

    open brain not opening

I received a green open brain in my swf.com order last Wednesday. It is now Sunday and I have yet to see it open up. Is this something to be concerned about? Its sweeper tentacles do come out at night.

    next reef fish

I had a pair of percs, I dont know if I'll do them again. They wouldnt eat, and got ich; it killed every fish but one. I just had a bad experience with clowns. The fridmani looks like a winner. Im also thinking about getting a rainfordi goby, or a purple firefish goby.

    next reef fish

Can I really get away with having a dwarf angel? That would be awesome; I do have good water quality and my tank has been set up for 7 months. A dwarf angel would make a great showcase fish.

    next reef fish

Can some of you give me some ideas on what my next reef fish should be? Right now I have 55lbs. of LR, various inverts, coral, and my sixline wrasse and yellow watchman goby. Im looking for a fish that would go nicely with what I have and be very colorful with personality.

    What Is It!?

Ive never seen a bristle worm of this shape and color. It is more round then flat, and a dark coffee brown with black rings. I looked up peanut worms, but this worm doesnt fit the color. I thought peanut worms are usually black and yellow.
