    DIY Calcium Reactor

I just finished cutting and gluing my new calcium reactor. It should be good for a tank up to 300 gallons but it is going on a 125 gallon SPS calcium hog. Anyway a few pics.

    Worried about my toadstool

In my 120 soft tank I have 5 different toadstools. Three of these are in very close proximity to each other and all open and appear healthy. They are all three surrounded(encrusted by) gorgonian and cabbage leather. I am not sure that yours is not somehow irratating one an another but mine do...

    My chiller is shot!!!

Kahnsell I also have a Custom SeaLife Chiller. My chiller is working fine but my controller is bad. If you decide to replace yours with a different one perhaps you would be willing to sell your controller and make a few dollars towards the new one? If you are interested post back here and I will...

    Leather Finger Coral

If you just bought it (let me know if you need another friend to buy for;) ) it could be a simple as shipping or collection damage that is presenting itself now that the coral is fully open. Watch it for a few days. If it does come off the rock then remounting it as soon as possible will give it...

    Soft Coral Bacterial Infection

If you were to remove the coral and take some of the "black bacteria" and rub it between your fingers it would probably be a very dark dense green color. What you are probably seeing is the rotting part of the coarl. Some coral turn milky white or light brown when they "melt" but Nephthea sp...

    Struggling/dying Finger leather

I meant to add to the above post that "if you are dosing anything STOP for 1 week and give the water change and carbon a better shot at working" Keep it as clean as you can but remember that a waxy skin is not necessarily a bad thing. Check all your water parameters and make sure nothing is out...

    Struggling/dying Finger leather

Sounds bacterial to me but I am no expert. Continue with moderate "INDIRECT" current. Do a 20% water change and run a quality carbon for 3-5 days. If it is (or starts to) deteriorate, usually it will begin at the base of the coral or the base of a branch. When this happens you could lose a few...

    Filter Feeder in a Acro?

I have had several acros with barnacles within them. Most of the time the barnacle eventually dies and is overgrown by the coral. I would be surprised to hear that if it is in fact a barnacle that it would either, not co-exist with the coral or would "spread" and cause a problem. If it starts to...

    Filter Feeder in a Acro?

If it is feather-like and darts in and out of the hole I would guess a barnacle. Tough to say without a pic though. SiF

Fragging yellow leather, not for dial up!

I will do my best to document the progress of the cuttings over the next several months and post back. In the meantime here are a few from today and one from last night. SiF

Fragging yellow leather, not for dial up!

The last pic of all the cutting I have I forgot to resize. All in all I took over a dozen cuttings. Half of these were open with full polyp extension in just over an hour after being replaced in the tank. All comments are welcome. SiF
