    Seahorses in a reef?

I agree with Alyssia, of course. But another reason why this isn't recommended is some reefs have high flow areas, and seahorse tanks need calm waters, as they move verry slowly.

    Basic seahorse questions.

I just now saw your question about the shrimp/crabs. IMO, the only safe crabs are scarlet reef hermits. The emerald crabs especially can be pretty fiesty sometimes. You may choose to not go with crabs at all, and just do all snails (thats the majority of my cleanup crew). As for shrimp, I've...

    Basic seahorse questions.

As a first seahorse, I would recommend h. erectus. I've had my pair for over a year now and have yet to have on illness that I've had to treat. *knock on wood*. Captive bred is the only way to go. They will probably be on frozen mysis shrimp, and you are saving yourself a huggeee risk of them...

Difficult fish that you've had luck keeping?

Beautiful anthias! In regards to the ***** fish, I got my picasso trigger and pajama cardinal from there and they're doing fine. However, I do see many of your points concerning the frequent ich outbreaks, underfed specimens, etc. I consider those two guys my "rescued" fish.

Difficult fish that you've had luck keeping?

Good job guys, thanks for the replys! I do agree with suppliers needing to stop getting in the doomed specimens, but I think most of the ones we try DO have a chance in captivity, they just need some extra attention. Beautiful copperband dogstar, that is one of my favorite saltwater fish!

Have I made a Big Mistake?

I agree with teresa, I bought two of my saltwater tanks from walmart and I love the one on the 55 gallon, it circulates the water great. I haven't replaced either filter, and on my 29 gallon that is the only filter I use. I would recommend a protein skimmer though.

Difficult fish that you've had luck keeping?

As the title explains, are there any fish that are known to be "difficult" to the average hobbyist, that you have had luck keeping? I'll start. I have a blue star leopard wrasse that I got off the internet, arrived in great shape, started taking frozen mysis a few days later, and is doing fine...

    leopard wrasse

Wow, I must have been super lucky. I ordered a blue star leopard wrasse on the internet, it arrived fine, and has been eating frozen mysis since a few days after I got it. Perhaps these kinds of fish, like the copperband butterfly, are a hit or miss. Mine is small and in my 30 gallon with a...

    Tang in a 55 G

You could try a tomini kole tang, they don't get too large, 6-7", and are relatively easy to keep once you get them through quarantine and onto prepared foods.

    water change question

It will also be more oxygen-rich which will make the water change easier on your fish.

    water change question

sometimes, newly mixed saltwater has traceable amounts of ammonia still. By aerating it for at least 24 hours, you're guaranteed that the ammoniums will be gone and the chlorine/chloramines too if you use tap water like me.
