starting a 40 gal bowfront need some insight

For corals, it will depend on your lighting. The better the light the more types of coral you can keep. Once you tank is stable and you have decent lighting you can start with some Mushrooms, and Zoa's. The sky is the limit from there. Good luck!!! SV

Best way to stop a leak & reseal the top of an aquarium

Just to add... This is an all or nothing kinda job. You have to remove all of the silicone in the entire tank and reseal the entire tank (again not the inside of the panes, the silicone that is sandwiched needs to stay). SO even if the leak is in the top of one seam on one side of the tank...

Best way to stop a leak & reseal the top of an aquarium

There are established ways to reseal a tank. I have resealed a few, and I searched on Youtube for some ways to do it. The basics are, you need to completely remove all of the silicone from the inside of the tank using razor blades. You want to make sure that you get it all, because new...

    Questions about Biopellet reactors

I did a lot of research on BP's a couple of months ago. I think most folks running them are trying to maintain nice SPS systems. They are looking to get nutrients out of the system fast/well. They use BP's to get close to an ULNS. I have seen some folks use BP's on mixed reefs, but mostly...

    DT in my QT

Great advice Flower!! Prefect explanation of how to set up the QT. I like to try to do a WC on my QT every two weeks. I use the water from my weekly WC in the DT. 10g tank and I Change out 5g. I try to keep my QT at the same salinity as my DT (unless treating with hypo of course). I also keep...

    lighting

Not 24/7 for plants. 12/12 works. Same in the real world. Maybe 14 on would be ok but not 24/7. I appreciate your opinion. I do what works for me. I came to this schedule by experimenting and found that full on 24/7 gave me predicable results. I don't think I would go a 12/12 on a fuge. I...

    lighting

Lots of folks like to keep their fuge lights on an opposite schedule from their DT. And most will run the fuge lights for 18 hours. Me personally I run mine 24/7, but to each their own. What kind of bulbs do you have?? CFL?
