QT tank with LR. Won't Cycle.

Part of the problem could be the amount of changes to the tank since you have set it up. Just maybe the filtration is having a hard time keeping up. Every time you add or remove something the water levels will change slightly. Also 6 weeks is still a small amount of time. A water change would...

live rock is shooting out a plume

I would say there is soemthing living inside that hole. Have you turned the lights out and waited to see if anything crawled out of there. I have a couple different creatures in my live rock that spit stuff out like that.

    Alantic carpet anemone

Good luck. Most people will just sacrafice the live rock that they are attached to. Its hard to get them off without damaging them. Our LFS doesn;t even try they will just "include" the live rock when you purchase any anemone.

    Anenomes!!!!!!

Anemones are very sensitive to water conditions. You can read the particular requirements for your anemones at http://www.***********.com Most anemones require medium to high lighting, and good water circulation.

    Somebody help quick!!!!

Do a search in the disease and treatment discussion on hyposalinity. If you have a q tank than try hyposalinity. You can find this info in the disease section. I have used this both on a clown and a tang and worked both times.

    Tests

I have tried quite a few test kits. Some even at the same time to see if the results would be any different. I stuck with the tetra test kit just because it is fairly inexpensive and I can get quite a few tests out of it. The onyly thing is they only test the basics.

Off Topic: What is Your Computer Choice

What kind of budget are you working with? I could send you a list of some of the top components that I use in my shop. You should be able to find a local company that sells the same hardware and get a good price. Also take into consideration the warranty when you are shopping for a new system...

    Question

I would let the new filters run at least a month before removing existing equipment. After you remove the existing equipment keep a close eye on water params.

    Test Kits !

I use the tetra test kit. You can get quite a few tests out of the kit and it's fairly inexepnsive. The only thing is they don't sell a test kit for clacium, and other elements. Just the basics. They are easy to use.

    Phosphate and calcium readings

Not sure about the phosphate, but as far as the calcium (from what I've read) should be around 400.

    wow

My wife and I spend quite a bit of time starring into our tanks. We started with freshwater and I never really cared for them (except my koi pond). I was afraid to go salt until my wife talked me into it. Shuold not have wasted money setting up that 55 gallon fresh. I find some new critter in...

    Blue Hippo

Even while small they prefer to have lots of room to swim. I would not recommend putting him into a 29 gallon tank. They are really prone to disease as well. Not really a beginner fish. You may want to try something like either a clown, gobie, or blenny. These stay failry small and are easier to...

    Garlic

If you have a cleaner crew they will probably get to the garlic and take care of it. If it's a small amount it shouldn't be a problem for your water. My cleaner shrimp go nuts over the garlic. It won't sit more than a few minutes before they get to it. If it does sit in there a while then I...

Big Green Crab found in LR

Do a search on emerald crabs. You'll get a lot of mixed replies about them. Some people hate them some like them. I would just say keep an eye on them.

    Unknown creature

Thanks for all the info. I couldn't really tell if he retracted into himself cause he moved so fast. Its funny how the tank changes at night. I'll have to keep on eye out over the next couple of nights to see what else is in there. My tank is still cycleing and hopefully the critters wont die off.

    live rock...........best on line

The best live rock I've found is from http://www.gulf-view.com Pay the extra and get the deco rock. I ordered 30 lbs of deco and 30 lbs of coraline and it is full of critters. So far I've found 4 anemones, several clams, some conch snails...

    Unknown creature

I am currently setting up an 80 gallon tank. I received my live rock yesterday from gulf view. Lots of life on the rock. I saw one creature that I have never seen before. It looked like it has the body shape of a worm, but is white with black rings. It moved pretty quickly and as soon as I...

    SAVE A dieing tank!!!!

Do you have any fish in the tank? Maybe would be a good idea to add something that eats the algae. My lawnmower blenny does a great job. Algae never has a chance to grow. Also you can drop the temp a couple of degrees. How long do you leave the lights on for everyday? If no fish or corals then...
