I am not totally sure, but The lower K -temp bulbs are more Green/yellow in color and seem to promote plant growth, ie. Green hair algae.

They do float until full of water. I have had one for a few years, and am happy with it...but then again it is the only one I have owned, so I have nothing to compare it to.
