well the lfs won't take it back and I'm dosing with DT's and it seems to be doing better every day so I'm just gonna see what happens and take it one day at a time... damn well wish I had known it was dendro before I bought it though.
You could upgrade your 15 to a 500 if you want but you're still going to have to wait for the new cycle to be over before it would be totally safe for livestock.
A retro fit kit is a kit that has the bulbs, sockets and ballasts but no canopy so you can apply it to your existing canopy (it's just a screw it into the canopy you already have jobbie). Do a search for it and you'll see what I mean.
Still a little low on the wattage. I'd suggest more than that. Perhaps if you built your own canopy or had someone build you a wooden canopy and then purchased yourself a retro-fit kit....
Could you show us another shot with the 20000K lights (ie full tank). I was thinking about getting some but I didn't know if it might be too blue looking. What has your experience been like?
It really depends on how much lighting you have compared to the size of your tank, ideally measured by a lux meter. But not many people have those. So we have come up with the (decidedly inferior and controversial) method of calculating watts per gallon. Most people agree that 3-5 watts per...
I guess waht I mean is that in order to keep certain inverts (ie corals or clams) you will need more wattage. Any I say that loosley because we all know I mean more "photosyntetically active radiation" which one could achieve at the same wattage levels by changing the intensity or type of...
Sounds like you're well on your way! However depending on what you eventually want to kkep in the tank, you will consider getting some more live rock, upgrading that lighting and adding on an additional powerhead. You may also want to invest in a simple skimmer.
I'd really like some more opinions. It's under dual 175 w MH in a 55 gallon tank supplemented by 4X96 watt PC actinics. The dealers tank just had two 400W MH's over a 400 gallon tank. It is expanded well night and day, though definitely better in the day. I heven't seen the polyps react to...
boy that's strange looking isn't it? Egg mass perhaps? Cleverly disguised nudibranch? (does it move?) Perhaps it's a colonial tunicate? (I don't know how big those get). Definitely doesn't look like a coral... :notsure:
Yes, I was going to brag about the hitchhiker but it didn't really seem appropriate in a thread about the coral. But nice hithchiker, eh?
Ophiura, what do you think of his chance of making it? And what's your opinion on the coral id?
well that's the funny thing. It's been in the dealer's tank now for several months and is growing. He had several other definite species of dendronephthea there that died over a few weeks but they were very vividly colored. He had two of these and they are rather plain looking and prospering...
I bought this coral yesterday advertised as "alcyonium sp." at the store where I bought it. I'm not quite sure it's classified right. It seems to "hard" to be alcyonium and the spicules seem too prominent. When you touch it it's like its made out of wood almost, it's so stiff. Anybody want...
