Any idea what these things are?

Yes, they just might be that. I've noticed as they get a little bigger (and that's happening in front of my eyes throughout the day) that the tips are taking on a blade like appearance. The odd thing is that they started to grow in a tank where I was curing live rock with no light whatsoever...

Any idea what these things are?

They don't move at all, and those projections seem rigid (i.e. they don't "sway" in the current).

What kind of coral is this?

What is it about the coral that makes you say that? (that's what I thought too but I'm not quite sure why I thought that...)

What kind of coral is this?

What do you think this is? I bought it as Nephthea species but do you think it could be more likely to be Capnella?

Anyone know anything about ORP? HELP!

Yeah, I have a red sea skimmer and my monitor I just received today - it's a milwaukee brand and it says its "self-calibrating".

Anyone know anything about ORP? HELP!

I just recently bought an ORP monitor to use with an Aquamedic denitrator unit and I just decided to measure the ORP in my display tank. It was only around 80!!! My understanding of ORP is that it needs to be somewhere betwenn 200 and 400. Shouldn't my tank readings be incompatible with life...

    Coffee Makers...

French press all the way, IMO. The coffee justs tastes "fresher" somehow. Use the same coffee for the press and then perc some and you'll see what I mean - big difference in my experience.

    New fromia star

I concur with Ophiura on this one - they will eat bacterial films on live rock, glass, etc.. It is both unnecessary and unproductive to spot feed them in my experience.

    New fromia star

I have had two fromia sp. stars in my tank now for over three months and they are doing well and have increased in size since I put them in. Contrary to what everyone seems to indicate I have found them hardy. I had two others in there before I went away on vacation last year and lost...

Idea for a new tank, please critique!

So I'm soon going to be building my own house and I was thinking of setting up a custom tank in the living room. What I was thinking of was a 4 foot by 4 foot by 3 foot deep "cubic" aquarium with a central overflow. I was also thinking about setting up a "stepping" system of pvc pipes around...
