I added a small starfish today to the tank. That could be what caused the spike. I also feed the fish twice a day. I feed them flakes. Yeah sorry that happened. I think the bulbs were loose. I bought an automatic fish feeder and it will feed at 7:00am and then 8:00pm. I have a timer set to turn the lights on at 6:00am and the lunar lights go on at 9:00pm! Its fixed now! Enjoy!

Im in the same boat as you. But instead of going all out and buying a huge tank I decided on a small 10g. That way I can gain experience and get a "feel" for things. Keeping a 10g in order is from what I heard quite an advanced move so once you get it down the larger tanks should be a breeze...
