Having undetectable phosphate and nitrate did not work for my or your sps. I think dealing with algae by starving it out also starves the corals. You need some other way to control the algae. I am using Algaefix and the QT of all corals.

I would control the phosphate and nitrate by testing. Once you stabilize those numbers through your routine then you can back off or lengthen the time between test.

Any noteworthy "side effects?"   Not much from my experience. Some corals react by retracting, other then that its slow to work. Google this and read the thread. " What I have seen is it looks like the AF does not kill the adult bubble algae once it is anchored to the rock. "
