Do I need to add any additives for the live rock?

How do you know if live rock is dead or alive? I know its "alive" when I purchase it from my LFS (its also cured there) but when I get it to my tank and it's been there for a few days, how do I know if it has all died? Just a question since I'm new to live rock . Thanks in adavance.

"Real Ocean Water" is the name of the water, I get it boxed and shipped to me... it's all pure and stuff.. i test it before I add any to my tank.. my only problem with clean up crews is that its a gourmet food for my flamehawk.. he eats them like crazy!! I know this sounds expensive but I use Real Ocean Water. It's about 12 bucks for 5 gallons but I know it's perfect . I've been using that for that past few years for my water changes and all my levels are perfect. Granted I only have an 80 gallon tank and water changes cost a hundred bucks...

So I just lost my whole tank to ich...so i purchased a UV steralizer. The second time around I want to add live rock... is this not a good idea with the uv steralizer?? I don't have anything left in the tank. Just broken coral for the bottom and some random coral. Fluval 404 filter,protien skimmer, heaters, undergravel filter and lots of water.

So my tank has finally come to an end after having no deaths for 5 years. All my fish died thanks to ich . I am confused as what to do. Should I get rid of all my water and start over? Was thinking about doing live rock and sand.... should I just keep my water?? Any suggestions would be great...
