    I have always used RO water and phosphate sponges and pads, etc, etc. etc. I truly believe this problem started with the use of a different phytoplankton food I used a couple of time for the corals.

    Here is example of "do not toss coral if polyps don't extend". This cup coral has not extended its polyps for over a year, and it IS still alive.

    Totally safe. They are a very non-agressive fish. I have one and have cleaner shrimp, peppermint shrimp and no problems.

    My guess is a bacterial bloom. Do as suggested and change your filter media and just sit back and let nature take it's course. I think it's too early to say your tank is done cycling.
