    Tassled Filefish

Sammy, well he is definitely a "keeper". I decided to name him "Dennis" because of the cowlick(tassles) on top of his head. He eats everything I put in, brine, mysis, flake, seaweed selects. The funniest is when he gets caught in the downdraft of the return tube in the tank, he looks like a...

    need final advice on MH....

If you have a ballast that will handle up to a 250W, for your size tank I'd put in the 175W and if you get a larger tank sometime you then can upgrade your bulb. Your water is going to heat up more with 250W over it. JMO

    Tassled Filefish

This is the funniest looking little fish!! So far he has behaved himself regarding living in the reef tank, time will tell, he still may have been a mistake. But this is the silliest looking fish with the weirdest personality. He let's me "tickle" his tassles...........on top of his head...

    Iodine questions revisited

Yeah, I'd say it's stocked pretty good, i.e. big leather, big frogspawn, colt, capnella, two brains, wellsy., mushrooms, montipora cap. (2), 2 med. acros, 1 small acro, feather dusters, polyps, pipe organ. So, do you know, does protein skimmers take it out? And should I listen to my gut and...

    Iodine questions revisited

I've gone back and read many posts regarding the pros anc cons of adding iodine to reef tanks. I'm still confused. Many of our experts on this board say they don't add any of it. That it is a trace element that is infused with water changes. I had my water tested at LFS today, iodine level was...

I may have made a mistake.........

Went to LFS today to get my water tested and to compare their results to my own. Found my iodine level very low, so bought a test kit to watch that. Anyhow, I think I made a mistake and made an "impulse buy". i didn't want to get another fish, but............this little, 1 1/2 inch tassled...

    Help! My corals

Some of my corals don't look good. My hairy mushrooms, which I've had for well over a year are shriveling up and two pectinia don't look good. They were doing very well. My other corals, wellsp., gorgorians, torch, cup, frogspawn, leather, polyps, colt, some new sps I got etc look good. My...

    Thoughts on JBJ Lighting Systems

I had JBJ PC'x on my 125 gallon for over a year and was very happy with them. I kept some SPS, but placed them very high on the rocks. The soft corals, mushrooms, etc did very well with them Also had brains and polyps under them. However, what I had was 2 36" fixtures. Each one had two 96W...

What's your most horrific seagoing experience been so far ?

I lived in Hawaii for several years and had two experiences. The first was a friend of mine was sitting on his surfboard waiting for a wave when a Man-O-War went up his trucks:eek: The second was snorkling in Hanauma Bay and witnessed a young girl brought in from the reef with the back of her...

    MOLTING HS crab????

I'd like to know this answer also, if it applies to all crabs (not hermits). Do they molt and leave little "bodies" laying around, because over the months I keep thinking somethings killing my little crabs, but now I wonder.

What time of day is best to feed corals?

Thanks Graham. The two gorgorians I have is one that is just brown and has been in my tank for over a year and is thriving with whatever I'm doing (DT's with turkey baster), the other new one is bright orange, and I've got it higher in the tank and feed the DT's to it also.

What time of day is best to feed corals?

It seems that most of the corals have their "feelers" out at night (sitting here with the flashlight again :) ) So when does everyone think the best time to feed is for gorgorians, SPS, caulestra etc.

    Pistol Shrimp Spawning?

They probably are pistol shrimp babies, don't worry, my cleaner shrimp spawn constantly, and I don't have any extra cleaner shrimp in the tank after two years of this. Niblets for the other creatures in there :)
