It could be the crabs or the snails. Did you glue them again? If so what type of glue are you using? I use loctite super gel and everything stays attached.

I would not worry about what he put into the tank. $2000 seems to be alot for the stuff you have listed. But $100 is a steal as long as the tank itself is fine. 25lbs of cured live rock is worth a $100 to me. JMO

Did you add any chemicals or additives to your tank? I had the css125 and if I added anything it would overflow.

When you add the rock try to make as many caves and perches for the fish. They need places to hide and mine look like they're playing tag sometimes going thru it. Also add a powerhead to your tank to keep things moving.

It's already attached to something the shell. Try gluing the shell to a piece of rock. I had the same thing and the mushroom is now 4 mushrooms.
