Sounds like Red Slime Algae (actually a bacteria). JustinX wrote an article a while ago on this topic. I followed it and got rid of it withOUT using any chemicals. Off the top of my head, I cannot recall the article, but my thread was called "my algae problem". He listed the article name...

I have them sitting in a tank with 1.014 SG (uncycled). I quickly set up a qt tank. I tried blasted it with boiling water. Will do that again and see what happens. I will report back.

I want to convert my old 20gal (high) into a fuge. I want my skimmer to run on that but want to eliminate bubbles (as much as possible). I am wondering about the spacing of the baffles (and quantity). Would it be better to have 2 baffles one inch apart or 4 baffles 1/2 inch apart or 6 1/4...

I have been thinking about my reply and thought I should elaborate a bit so as not to give bad advise. There are many threads here that talk about the benefits of a 4-6 DSB. I don't disagree with their arguments entirely. I say 2 inches purely from an aesthetic point of view.

Personal preference. I am not crazy about a 5-6 sand bed. My sb is 2inches.
