go to www.aquaticlights.com and look at the 175 MH kits to go with your PC's. This way you are not limiting yourself on what types of corals you can buy in the future.

    cpr bak pak skimmer ?

The CPR website www.cprusa.com can help you with retrofitting the bakpak with a maxijet. I have had one for about 8 months and except for having to tear the powerhead apart for cleaning monthly it is a good skimmer. If your tank is a 75 you...

    hey! how about an eel

Snowflakes are the safest for your tank mates but that's not saying much as they will eat anything they can get in their mouth. Keep it well feed though and your tank mates will survive. But if you want to watch it swim around you will be disapointed as they mainly stay hidden except when hungry.

I found a site with True Actinic bulbs for PC lights

I bought the true 03 actinics from Hellolights and can say I am very happy with them. Big Big improvement over the blue 7200 bulbs I used to have.

    tang trouble

Yellow tangs are pretty much bullies. I would agree that all you can do short of removing one of the fish would be to rearange the rock or take the yellow out for a short period of time (day or two) and then reintroduce it to the tank. I noticed you said this is a reef tank, if so what kind of...

    Any suggestions or comments?

If your tank is a 60 gal then you need to re-think the naso as it needs a minimum of twice that much tank. they are a beautiful fish with a great personality but keeping it in a 60 is like someone keeping you in a closet. Congratulations on everything else as it sounds like a great set up. What...

    Day/Night Temp. Swing...

good question. I would like to hear from some sharks on this one as this is a major concern to me as well. I was so worried about the temp swing I now keep my reef at 82 to avoid the nighttime 78 and daytime 84 temp swing as this kind of shift would not occur in nature and I assumed it would...

    BenTrue...and other PC users

I have a 50 gal (48X13X18) with 4X55w PC and keep the following corals: two open brains, bubble, hammer, encrusting montipora, encrusting porites, favites finger coral, several mushrooms, yellow leather, toadstool leather, green star polyps, torch, button polyps, xenia. In a 37 reef with 2X55w I...

    Safe Crabs

I have never heard of a crab that someone has not had a bad experience with. that being said I personally like (and have in my reef) the scarlet reef hermits, sally lightfoot crab, and emerald crabs. They have never given me problems but that is no gaurantee as many people on this board will...

    what should i get?

to really get rid of hair algae get rid of it's source = nitrates. find out what is feeding the hair algae and once you remove that then the algae will die off and not return. The problem with adding crabs and hermits is they don't always eat hair algae (and sometimes eat your corals and fish)...

    Fish Selection

sounds like too many fish. The Powder blue Tang is beautiful but your tank is way too small for this fish. The rest are all compatible and also small fish though there are allot of them. Are you planning to go reef? If so this is a major bioload for a reef system so you may want to reduce it...

    Hammer coral question

A few of the polyps on my hammer coral are starting to get really long. I mean 4" long and seem to sting my pagoda cup if they touch it. I moved it away from the pagoda but was just wondering if this is normal behavior. Looks kind of strange with all the polyps being the same length and then...

    Clownfish Hosting Stories?

My tomato clown just loves my branching flower pot and the flower pot doesn't seem to mind at all. Kind of funny watching the clown try to feed the flower pot.

    peculiar clown behavior

The seizure thing is part of mating and establishing dominance. Perfectly normal behavior between two clownfish. I had a false perc and a tomato clown in the same tank and whenever the larger tomato came close to the smaller false perc the perc would exhibit this behavior. As for digging in the...

    Mechanical or Skimmer?

I would go with the Prizm. I currently have a prizm on my 50gal and a CPR bakpak 2r on my 37. they both skim about the same but the prizm is easier to maintain. the CPR comes with a POS rio pump that needs to be cleaned monthly or it will seize up (not to mention you have to look at the power...

    Clam vs Power Compact

I've kept a corcea clam with 220wts of PC lighting for the last 6 months in my 50 gal. I keep it high up on the rocks so it gets lots of light and the colors have remained very vibrant.

    MH, VHO, or COMPACT????

go to www.aquaticlight.com and look at the retro MH kits. just make sure you upgrade the bulbs as the one that comes with the kits is garbage. This will give you enough light for any corals including SPS and you could easily go with a NO...
