    Salinity argument

Ok, my girlfriend and i are having an argument on our salinity content on our 55 gallon tank. Our 55 gallon has excelent salinity but is missing about 5 or 6 gallons of water in it. Now I said that we can put 5 gallons of regular RO water in it and the salinity will not fluctuate. But she said...

    Hermit Crabs Shell

Ok...my hermit crap has molted again, but this time he burried his exoskeleton in the corner of the tank...and he has been sitting there for a bit like its a grave sit. Is there something special that he is doing, am I supposed to take this as a sign?? Ive decided to get him another shell...

    Are puffers difficult to keep?

I've heard two conflicting opinions in the case of puffers...one person told me they were hardy and relatively easy to keep...the other said they were prone to illness and somewhat difficult. What's the scoop??? I've been looking for a puffer for my 135, but I wasn't something that will be healthy!

    anybody have a flower anenome?

Actually...we had something very similar to what you are describing. We went to the lfs one day and saw the same type of anemone we had in our tank in one of theirs they said it was aptasia. It was about the size of a dime and was reddish brown in color with white specks on the tips...almost...

    Do hermit crabs molt??

Just a quick question...do hermit crabs molt? I know that they grow out of their shells, but do they molt in the process?? I found the body of a hermit crab today and I'm wondering if it was a fatality or an exoskeleton...any ideas??

    Help!!!

I hope you also realize that a panther grouper will quickly outgrow that size of a tank. They need at least a 150-gallon aquarium or larger...and this is a minimum. Other people will tell you an even larger tank. And believe me...they will grow fast. Please do some research...it is THE KEY to...

    Frustrated with Clown Tang!

It could be the combination of tangs in such a small tank, along with the eel..what size and type is it? Also, eels are invert eaters. I'm surprised it hasn't devoured those crabs. Plus, depending on the eel, it will probably need a tank large than a 55 gallon in the future. Maybe you should...

    Keeping a fish-only clean...

Does anyone have any suggestions on keeping a 135 gallon aggressive clean? I have good filtration...30 gallon oceanic sump, uv sterilizer, tunze protein skimmer. All parameters are excellent. Just in the past few days, however, I've been experiencing something which resembles (or is) a diatom...

    Best food for a lionfish??

Well, the guy at the lfs said he would only accept live. He did a demonstration feeding and he sucked down at least six good-sized mollies in a period of about 30 seconds. It was kind of scary actually. The lfs employee made of point of saying that if he poked you, you better go to the...

    Best food for a lionfish??

I saw the most beautiful red volitan at my lfs that I have EVER laid eyes on. He is in such good health! I have been searching for a lionfish for quite some time and I was thinking about making him a part of my 135...current tankmate would be a zebra eel. The tank has been established for two...

What is happening to all the posts??

I posted a topic yesterday about keeping my tank clean and it's gone! I also posted a topic on October 12th about tankmates for a 135. It's still there, but yesterday it had over 8 responses...now two. What's going on??

    Life or death decision....

Well, guys. I have some sad news. The Emperor has passed on. I guess it was just his time. At least he went out somewhat happy, though. I did exactly how I should've...but he was just too sick. I did the best I could. :(

    135 gallon...you choose!

Ok, I have a 135 gallon with a zebra eel and a juvenile emperor angelfish...which of the following fish would you also put in...volitan lion, golden puffer, powder blue tang. Would all of these work or would that be too many? I don't want to stress anybody out...

    Life or death decision....

Well, luckily, lateral line erosion is not contagious! So it would only stress him out more if I move him! And trust me...the lfs knows what they're doing. I'm not an expert on saltwater, but I'm definitely not a beginner either. Plus, I've seen the lfs actually DISCOURAGE people from buying...

    Life or death decision....

I've recently inherited a 5 inch Emperor angelfish, who is in horrible condition. He has a severe case of lateral line erosion...and I mean serious. Instead of being blue, his entire head is white and flaky exposing red veins underneath, not to mention his body, which has about 1/3 consumed by...

    yellow headed jawfish

Yes, he should definitely be making a hole in the sand. That is actually a good sign! He's making a home for himself! As for the eating...my didn't eat the first day...but he's a pig now. I'm sure he'll come around. :) Aren't they the cutest...
