Algae is usually caused when too much phosphates or silica is present. Phosphates are the green algae. Silica is the brown algae. You can remove some phosephates and silica with different tools. But when you clean the glass the algae usually dies and thus produces more phosphates and silica...

you can have southdown transfered from a different Home depot to a local one but i think it will cost some more. I don't think there is any southdown around us.
