    cycling?

I wonder if some live shrimp may help with my cycle. I started with some live rock ruble and let that go for a week ghost feeding. Then after a fishing trip, I had some "bait" shrimp left and put 5 in the tank, still kicking. 1 did die, but the others have been doing good and I still feed the...

    13 year old preteen daughter

It sounds like a nice time, until I look around and see my wife, and 11 year old daughter getting into the "you don't love me" fights, Then throw in her older sister (with developmental problems) and now you have a powder keg. All i can say is thank god for Kayak Fishing here in the Tampa area

    Found in the wild

Well, as I said, this is down in Palma Sol Bay. I was looking for fishing spots. If I get down there again, I will try to get some better pics. To me, it looked like a bumpy cucumber with 1 discharge hole, but there were single and bundles of sometimes 8-10 in a pack. I was wondering if they...

    And the water is cold...

OK, I got the 20 gallon up and started by ditching the under gravel filter. I rinsed the CC and and add 10 lbs of LR rubble. I kept the bio wheel HOB filter and only used a one side with a packaged filter. The other chamber I loaded with small pieces of LRR. I will keep this for a cycle kick...

    NItrates. I'm baffled...

I am new to the salt side of the hobby, but if you are doing 5 gallon changes twice a week, that is 10 gallons a week, so that works out to about 8% (+/-). That in a 125 Gallon tank is low, from what I have read. Not to replace the experts here, but if possible, I think changing 5 Gallons a day...

Bear Grylls from "Man vs. Wild"

If the Bear gets 1 card, (minus the fact that he has OSHA and other groups making sure he wears his PFD ...), Then Les Stroud should get more than one. I have never seen him with anything that was not " what a standard person" would have for a simple excursion.

Anaerobic nitrate reduction/ but how ?

So, If I read this correctly, either way, you are reducing the nitrate (). If this is correct, I believe this is what they call a Monaco or Jaubert method. It basically is a plenum that gets no water movement (ie; underground filter with no up tubes). I have read an article about this and was...

    And the water is cold...

Hello to all, I am starting to get ready for my first Saltwater tank and I believe I have a game plan that may get things moving. I just picked up a 20 gallon tank from Free cycle, a local internet trading site. The former owner had a salt tank and gave up. My plan is to start this tank as a...

It begins, the journey to the salty side

Thanks for the welcome. I have been lurking here for a couple weeks and have to say, this is a great site. The tank I have is 36" tall, 36" wide, and 24" deep. I was thinking of a reef set-up, but someone replied about the depth being an issue for corals. I am still thinking about the reef...

    keeping the wires tidy

I was not sure on the back coverage, thanks Doc. I just finished a stand for my 75 gallon that will keep my FW friends going. I installed a couple Quad boxes and then a GFCI to cover them. This is so I can convert my 135 to salt, The stand for that will get the power makeover also. But first...

    keeping the wires tidy

Hello salty, Just to give you an idea, a GFCI is a type pf circuit. I have a GFCI outlet on my stand and it feeds or protects the other outlets after it. I think it may cover the entire circuit back to the panel, but cannot say for sure. I will try to get a picture for you later. There is the...

    New conversion

this may need to go into another forum, but this is the start of the swap. I made the stand for the 75 Gallon tank and will get the tank cleaned and ready for the new occupants. I will get better pics later, but the basic set up is the front doors and sides open for access to the back. I have...
