I have mine sump/refugium setup in three compartments. First one is where I put the skimmer and heater and where the overflow comes from the main tank. The second compartment is where I have the return pump and then the third compartment is where the refugium is. So Iam just going on by the way...

I would go with 900 gph pump. You will have to divert 200 gph to your refugium.

Any kind of bad algae that is in your tank comes from poor water quality, over feeding and lights usually. I would check and see if the light bulbs need changing, cut down on feeding and just keep up on water changes with ro or ro/di water. If you do all of that you should see the algae start...
