    Canopy fans and condensation .

Yep, add some ventilation. More often than not, modern reefing does not use canopies.

    5g reef

In a tank as tiny as this, I figure keeping a high alkalinity will prevent pH swings from occuring regularly. It's working out well so far.

    5g reef

Yep. I do. It's been my experience that my LFS uses regular instant ocean. Every time I tested it, it's about 420 ppm calcium and 8dKh off of a fresh batch. I like my levels up at 460ppm Ca and 10dKh. I don't add very much at all to the tank, about 3ml each of seachem fusion 1 and 2 per week...

I did happen to dose 2ml of calcium and 2ml of alkalinity this morning. I'll probably do a water change this weekend.

    Kessil A80 tuna blue

The Kessil a80 is fanless, it's entirely passively cooled. I really like the color of these lights, however, if you are really into a lot of mods and like to try new things with your lights, you won't have those options with the Kessil like you would the AI. Also, the spectral controller must...

    5g reef

I might go to the fish store later this afternoon to see about getting a few small select pieces of coral. I guess we will have to just see what I come back with!

    5g reef

I want to get good at growing coralline.... Lol. I'm buying a red Sea test kit with an Amazon gift card from Christmas. Anyone else surprised I haven't bought test kits yet?! Lol! Anyone having success growing coralline under our regular tank LEDs?

    Need help with dosing

If you have a top on the tank, take it off. It's causing pH issues. 20% every two weeks in a ten gallon should be fine. Just make sure you are using RO water and using a quality salt. You don't have any corals that are really calcium demanding. I'm also kind of with Cory on this one... It...

    Idiots guide to reefing.

Depends on the species of coralline and how long it has adapted to the tank, I believe. Gotta test your nitrate and phosphate levels and see where your calcium and alkalinity is. Get some soft corals to start. Leathers, zoanthid's, mushrooms, xenia, and others.

    Idiots guide to reefing.

You can always read my guides I wrote. ;) Are you setting up a new tank or are you prepping your old one for corals? If you are prepping your old tank for corals, you will have to get the water pristine.

Trying to get back into the hobby

Yes, you can buy a protein skimmer so big that it doesn't skim at all. I made that mistake before. I'd go with the 150, to be honest. Usually, you would want to go by (tank gallons) plus one. So typically the next size up would be a 100g. If you are going to have some hard to keep corals that...
