I do get coraline growing under my Kessils just not as good as in my sump.

Ok tank looks good nothing great, you want growth of coralline just my .02 good alk and calcium level dose with purple Up you will need a rock with established coralline on it. shut your return pump use a tooth brush to brush the coralline and release the spors into the water column

Grows under my nonreef lighting just fine.

I might go to the fish store later this afternoon to see about getting a few small select pieces of coral. I guess we will have to just see what I come back with!

I did happen to dose 2ml of calcium and 2ml of alkalinity this morning. I'll probably do a water change this weekend.

You still dose w the water changes in that small of a tank?

Yep. I do. It's been my experience that my LFS uses regular instant ocean. Every time I tested it, it's about 420 ppm calcium and 8dKh off of a fresh batch. I like my levels up at 460ppm Ca and 10dKh.

I don't add very much at all to the tank, about 3ml each of seachem fusion 1 and 2 per week. It's just enough to keep it stable. I'll add 2ml each of it to a new gallon of saltwater before a water change too.

After all, alkalinity is just the measurement of the resistance to the change in pH.

In a tank as tiny as this, I figure keeping a high alkalinity will prevent pH swings from occuring regularly. It's working out well so far.

When researching this stuff, most are listed as aggressive and need space. Yours seem close together. No issues?

I can not speak for snake BUT there are two types of problems with corals in close proximity one is chemical warfare, the other and more common is stinging. if we are careful with our water movement you can prevent sweeper tentacles from reaching out and stinging nearby corals.

You can also bunch coral from the same family together Euphyllia coral for instance. snake any thought on fish ?

No fish. I'm going to stock with inverts in the near future. Possibly a small shrimp, a couple of green mythrax, and any other small thing I can find, like tiny black brittle stars.

Every time I go to the LFS, I get a small bag of those asterina starfish. Most of the corals I've bought are $5 or under.

@jay0705 , I am running a bag of chemipure blue in the tank. The super activated charcoal cuts down on toxin problems and the only stinging coral I have is the hammer coral, which I put well out of the way of the others. Most small corals like Green star polyps and zoanthids just seem to overgrow a spot, which is it's defense mechanism.

You should be fine with the hammer they seem not to send out sweepers like a torch
