    Goby Questions

The sand sifters can deplete the life in your sand bed. The watchman gobys don't. If your tank is small (<75 gal) I'd go with the watchman. Otherwise what ever you like. I have both in a 125. I will say with white sand it is hard to see the diamond goby. The yellow watchman is easy to see.

    Goby Questions

I have been looking at purchasing a Diamond Watchman Goby but then again I was also looking at a Yellow Watchman Goby with a Tiger Shrimp. I was wondering which would be the best for my tank. At this point in time my tank is FOWLR but I am in the process of doing coral also. Thanks for the input.

    My own newbie thread

I have a diamond goby and a yellow watchman. The often are in close proximity to each other but seem fine. I also have a fire fish who the watchman goby had a problem with the first day but not since. I do live gobies. Do your research in how hard some are to keep. I read that the hectors...

    substrate problems

I'll guess you mean a Sand Sifting Goby like a Diamond - If it is a healthy established bed then the Goby would begin to eat all of the animals that made the sand bed healthy and it would end up with a pretty surface but nothing good below about 1/2". If it was an unhealthy bed then there...

    My own newbie thread

To be perfectly honest...I never quarantined my Sand sifters, because I knew they couldn't eat in a bare bottomed tank. They have to sift sand and feed on the fauna in it...that's all they eat. Like I said, when frozen Mysis dropped to the bottom, the sand sifter ate it, and learned that it was...

    My own newbie thread

Hi, My Golden sleeper head goby couldn't eat after a few days when the fauna had been depleted. I was told it would not never be able to recover since, sand sifters need the fauna to live, and eat constantly. Once it began to starve, it actually got a sunken tummy because it kind of fed in on...

    First swf.com order!

Sorry about the DWG. As much as I hate to say this, it may be a blessing in disguise. If I remember correctly, your tank is fairly young. Correct me if I'm wrong. Diamond Gobies are sand sifters, meaning they feed by sifting out small critters in the sand through their gills. They need a fairly...

    First swf.com order!

Well my first ever online order came in today and I'm mostly happy! Everyone was great and healthy.....except diamond watchman goby. He didn't survive shipping. I understand that happens but everyone else being a purple firefish goby and 3 chromies are doing great. Oh and these zoas are...

...the sand in the 40B to make sure there are plenty of worms in the bed, and it's growing like a weed. This is in conjunction with a diamond goby and a pair of 9" engineer gobies. The sand is constantly turned over, but I still find lots of "tunnels" along the edges of the glass. Nassarius...

New to forums and restarting hobby with 55g FO suggestions please

So I was given back my 55g tank from my ex-wife after she and her husband grew tired of it after 15 years. But they let the tank go badly and when I picked it up you couldnt see past the algae growth on acrylic. Yet their 2 Mono fish and 1 domino and striped damsels are alive. I decided to...

What is this stuff in my tank and why!?

I had that same "problem" with my sand. I didn't want to stir up the sand trying to get it out because I wanted my tank to stay as natural as possible with as little physical interference as I could. I got a diamond watchman goby. Within a week, no more diatoms on the sand. He constantly...

Mushroom cluster buried under live rock

...They dig out the corners of the tank, the middle of the tank, or anywhere in the tank that hasn't been dug in a day or two. The tiny diamond goby mounds look like ant hills at the foot of Mt. Everest. Some days... I regret buying Fiji pink sand. All the other days... I regret buying two...

These are the fish I've added: My clown. I really didn't want a clown fish but my wife wanted a Nemo. But, she didn't want to call it Nemo. So she named it after the actress who played the part of the blue fish. So she named her/him/it Ellen. Here's my diamond watchman goby. He's got the...

Stock list ideas for 55 reef

I'd hold up on the sand sifting goby for a little while. You need to let the tank, especially the sand, get established. I have a diamond goby in my 40B, and though it will grab a piece of food, if blows right out of it's gills. They're basically filter feeders that feed on the organisms living...

    Latest video of my tank

...Every couple of days I have to dig the rock out and shake the sand off the xenia. On a brighter note... the other day I caught my diamond goby picking up sand and filling in a hole between two rocks. Perhaps I should get a bunch of diamond gobies to counteract the engineer's destruction! One...

    Fish mysteriously dying

...missing as well. In August, one clown jumped out of the tank. That left is with two fish in the tank. We bought a powder blue tang and a diamond goby they last 2 weeks. We separated the puffer and added another clown. The new clown disappeared in a few days. We thought the clown was getting...
