    Live or Not Live?

This is all your choice. I ended up using crushed aragonite sand from home depot then I found 5 fellow reefers in my area and asked for a cup full of sand from each of their tanks to get the bacteria and start some bio-diversity. As to speeding up the cycle if you buy live sand that already...

    What comes first?

I thought this was going to be a chicken or egg question I added the sand and rock and mixed the water 5 gallons at a time in buckets and added it as quickly as I could to minimize die off. BTW the answer to the chicken/egg question is the rooster.

Adding More Live Sand.. Is It Possible?

I have added sand by using a funnel with a plastic tube running down to the bottom of the tank. It took a long time to get it done, but the cloudiness was next to nothing. I had a very small cycle but luckily nothing in the tank was harmed/killed. I wish you the best of luck as you are doing...

    What is this anemone...?

It does look like a young/small aiptasia. I use joes juice on mine, but with yours so close to the zoas I don't know if it could hurt them. From all of the pictures I have seen aiptasia can come in quite a few color forms.

    psychedelic fish

The fish are beautiful and If you are willing to do the extra to take care of it then do it. I have found a few sites that sell the food for them but because of the rules I will not post them. I did the same thing as you though(buying without research) and got really lucky and bought one that...

    scooter blenny

Great looking scooter, I have found that both of ours love to eat frozen cyclopeze. I looked hard to find a food they would enjoy because we hastily bought them and didn't realize the difficulty of feeding them. I also ended up getting a hob refugium and added macro algaes from our lfs and...

    Help with new Mushroom

I got lucky and got one of them free as a hitchiker on a piece of rock that I bought. I have it in a medium flow mid placement and in the 2 months that I have had it it has split twice and opens to around 2.5 inches. I like the blue spots on it as that is about the only blue in my tank. The 2...

    Sand Question

I have read a lot on this recently. I am reading on my area boards that you can use pulverized limestone. I have seen that they sell it at Home Depot. The brandname is Pavestone. I am getting ready to do this tomorrow myself and figured after the research I have done I would pass along the...

    Crab Id?????

Looks just like my Sand sifting crabs I ordered from this site. Does it swim backward. Also does it have feather protrusions from the top of its head? I enjoy watching them as they burrow in the sand, and occasionally they come out and swim and look so very awkward doing it!

    blennies

I have a bi-color blenny, and when I first got my lawnmower they fought a lot. It took almost 2 weeks before they settled down and accepted each other. Now sometimes I get to see them perch on the same rock together. I had a second tank set-up so that when my bi-color started acting so...

    Now what... (part 2)

I highly recommend more live rock if you plan on keeping any anemones or any corals of any type. The main reason I recommend this is because the rock also will act as filtration for you as it grows the good bacteria and will help to keep your tank clean. It seems expensive, but in the long run...

    Now what... (part 2)

You are not supposed to post links to competitor sites. With that said I will let you know a secret. I started my tank with tap water. Now I have a constant battle with hair algae. I ended up buying a r/o water unit and have done several water changes, but I continue to battle with the hair...

    Christmas tree worm rock

Has anyone here ever kept a Christmas tree worm rock? I have seen a few at my lfs and they are beautiful. I have a 55 gallon tank with compact flourescent lighting 110W daytime and 110W actinic coralife lighting. I would like to know if it would be possible for me to have one of these...

    Is it possible

Is it possible to come across metal halide ligting setups inexpensively? I love the hobby and would love to move even further into it, but as I have already spent so much money on it I would love to find a break on these lights. I have a standard 55 gallon tank (48" long) and I am running...
