Adding all the fish at once

Well that's why I'm asking. I've seen it with freshwater where more and more ammonia was added over the course of a couple of weeks. The the person then changed the source of ammonia. Switching from pure ammonia, to a fish bio-load. When this was done there was no spike in ammonia or...

Adding all the fish at once

I'm not sure if I follow as to why it won't work if it is done the following way: If the tank has LR/LS it should have enough nitrafying bacteria to handle a small amount of ammonia/nitrite. If I slowly add ammonia and increase the amount added over a couple of weeks they tank should be able to...

    Hello/Look Down Fish

I used to work in a place that has a whole school of them. The tank was a 7,000 gallon so there was no problem with aggression. They are pretty hardy fish. They do get large, easily 10-15 inches. Hope this helps Tom

Adding all the fish at once

I'm curious if anyone out there uses the fish-less method to cycle their tanks? Some of the fish I plan on adding are delicate and should only be added to established tanks. The ones that could handle a traditional cycle tend to be more aggressive and should be added last. So I'm thinking of...

    Quiet fan for lights

Hey guys, I've been having problems with my PC, ballast. I spoke with the manufacturer Custom SeaLife who informed me that the average ballast should last about 5 years. Of course I wasn't using the cooling fan which can cut their life in half. The fan that came with them is extremely loud...

    replacing rio 2100

Hey Corky, I had the Rio 2600. I switched over to a Mag 7 for my skimmer. The Mag was a much better pump, however it boiled my water. At the time I didn't have a chiller on the tank so I had to switch back to the Rio. As long as you take that into consideration I would suggest the Mag. Tom

    PC's flickering

The bulb works in the other ballast so I am going to assume it is the ballast that is bad. Does anyone know what causes this? Are the ballast easy to replace? What about costs? Thanks

    PC's flickering

When my PC's came on today the bulb was flickering. It was also much dimmer than usual. The bulb itself seems fine since it works on the other side. I also thought I smelled a very slight burning smell. Any ideas of what could be causing it? How long do the fixtures last? Are they fixable...

    What to use to aquascape

No I definitely don't want dead coral. Even when I did my reef tank I stuck with only corals that can be sucessfully propogated, and I "tried" to stay with tank raised fish. Does anyone have any links to good looking fake coral? or pictures of tanks using fake coral? All the ones I've seen...

    What to use to aquascape

Hello everyone, Wow my first post on a new board. I'm looking to get back into salt. The tank is still on the design stages but I'm curious as to what type of tank aquascaping does everyone use. If I had the money I would love to do LR. But part of the reason I'm doing FO is to keep the cost...
