    Uneven floor

It was leaning before I put it on the styrofoam.

Ahhh! Water spilling on floor >

It wasn't a problem of a tube detaching from anything. the tube was draining into the sump, and somehow it bent upwards and started draining water onto the floor.

    Uneven floor

The lean isn't very severe. The tank isn't filled all the way to the top because it's drilled. I have a glass tank on the same side of the room and when that tank is full, you can't see the water line.

    Uneven floor

So filled my 55 gal acrylic tank up with fresh water to check for leaks. I notice that the water is higher at the back than at the front. I read somewhere that placing the tank on top of styrofoam will fix this. I currently have the tank on a 1.5 inch thick slab of styrofoam. Will this problem...

Ahhh! Water spilling on floor >

Yes, I suppose. I guess I just got a wave of discouragement considering I haven't even put anything in the tank and there are already problems

Ahhh! Water spilling on floor >

So I just filled my 55 gallon tank with freshwater to check for leaks. It's drilled with 2 holes about 1-1.5 inches from the top with 2 tubes going into the sump, and a Rio 1400 return pump going back into the tank. The whole system was working fine until I woke up this morning to find one of...

    koran Angle

Would this angel fish be safe to keep in a 55 gallon FOWLR tank? Or is that too small?

    Question about water quality

Would keeping it in a garbage can with a lid be fine, or does it need to be further sealed?

    Question about water quality

OK. Well I can get a good RO/DI unit used for $90 nearby. I was also wondering. For a 55 gallon tank, how much pre-mixed saltwater should I keep on hand?

    Question about water quality

Another thing... my LFS sells ocean water for $1 per gallon. They say it's ultimately cheaper than mixing my own SW. Is this true? roughly how much money (in salt) would it cost me to mix my own water?

    Question about water quality

As a sidenote, I'm just doing a FOWLR tank for now.

    Question about water quality

I understand. Although from the sounds of it, acquiring RO/DI is going to cause me just as many headaches. I can either buy it from my LFS for $1 per gallon or make it myself, but it seems like I'd have to keep a large amount of it on hand.

    Question about water quality

Just wondering: would adding carbon to the sump allow me to get away with using tap water (& salt of course) for water changes instead of RO/DI? The tap water here is fairly decent (Oakland, CA). Would using water conditioner make any difference? Any thoughts?

    Filling up a freshly-drilled tank

So I have a 55 gallon tank. I drilled it a few days ago, and attached all necessary plumbing. Using a rubbermaid-esque container as the sump (i'd say it's about 15 gallons), and I just bought a Rio 1400 return pump. Can anyone explain to me how I fill this thing up with water? Do I just fill up...

Cheapest (yet adequate) setup for a 55 gal?

Okay, so I've found some good deals on some live rock ($2 per lb of premium cured fiji live rock). I'm thinking 60 lbs would be good. If i do a live sand/non-live sand mixture, how much live sand, and how much non-live sand? I found someone on craigslist selling 50 lbs of live sand for $20, is...

    Is this skimmer good?

Just to be sure This skimmer is meant to be in-sump right? The reason I'm asking about it is I found a used one online (less than 6 months old) including the Oceanrunner 2700 pump for $100. Is the Oceanrunner 2700 pump a return pump for the sump? Or is that something else?

    Is this skimmer good?

Hi, I have a 55 gal tank I want to set up as a SW aquarium. I'm going to buy a large rubbermaid container (or something of the sort) as the sump. I was wondering if the Turbloflotor 1000 is a good protein skimmer?

Cheap places for live rock/live sand in the Bay Area?

Yeah, I think I'm gonna go through craigslist for this stuff. I saw one online for 60 lbs for $160, all cured and ready to go. I should probably jump on this one
