Here is another silly newbie question. Im curious about how heavy LR is. I would like some idea as to what a peice of LR about the size of a volley ball would weigh. Is it real dense?:confused:

I was wondering if in a SW tank if you are supposed use the filter cartiges with the carbon in them or if eventually you can run them with out carbon. In my FW tanks i only used carbon in the begining and now i make my own filters with out the carbon.

well, i did the vinegar test on it, and there was no fizz, but im still gonna use it, its a way better alternative then that quickrete sand they had there.:)

For those in the st. louis area, i went to home depot in arnold, mo and found some sand. They had 2 types of play sand, in the lumber department they had the quickrete brand of sand which was brown gritty and ugly, but over in the garden area outside they had bags of sand that said "Gulf Coast"...

ok, i have decided to go with live sand in my 29g FO, now will the tank need to be cycled first before i add the sand or will it be ok?

im working on getting ready to start my 29g. Im am thinking of going the fishless cycle way and want to know if i use the shrimp method, will the rotting shrimp stink up my house. I could deal with it my self if it does, but my hubby is another story.:p

thanks for the info do you happen to know if i would have to make the sandbed as deep as someone would who was doing a reef tank?

I am looking into doing an FO tank and was considering using CC but ive been reading about the benifits of using LS. I dont plan on doing a reef in this tank (29g) , so i was wondering how deep would i need to make the sand for this tank and aside from purchasing LS online, how might one go...
