I agree... I really don't want to sacrifice a fish just to cycle. How long do I leave the shrimp in for? Just long enough to cycle? Won't it start to smell?

I'm adding both dead and live sand, as well as live rock. Questions: 1. Should I add fish to aid in cycling? or is live stuff good? 2. What do I feed my live sand/rock? is this enough info? Thanks in advance.

Thanks, I did take out the pump to glue it. I was concerned about any toxic effect the glue might have.

I keep hearing the suggestion to use raw shrimp to cycle the tank. How many do you use? How big? And how long do you keep them in the tank? Anyone have any cocktail sauce.

I keep hearing that a sand bottom is the best way to go. Is 2"-3" about the norm for coverage?
