Someone was telling me you can use the icecap setup to overdrive no tubes. Is this correct? So instead of a 48" tube producing 40 watts you can run it with the icecap ballast and it will almost double in wattage.

Using all live sand would be fine. People don't do that because of the cost!

I think it depends on what part of the county you're in. I've heard of the quikrete being white but unfortunately in Denver it's the dark brown variety. I think any kind of sand marketed as kid or childrens sand will be fine. Those won't contain silicates, a cause of sicoliosis (spelling?).

I've heard that you can rewire or switch ballasts or something to boost the output of no fluorescent lights. For instance, wiring up a 40 watt no to produce 80 watts of light. Has anyone heard of this or done this? How do you do it?

I'm getting a mag drive pump for a return from the sump to the main tank. Is it ok to put a ball valve in the line from the pump to the main tank to reduce the flow, or will this make the pump work to hard shortening its life and causing mechanical problems?

What I'm concerned with is people have told me if you run a lot less than the maximum flow rate then the siphon will break suction. How low of a flow rate can you achieve before you start having problems with the siphon breaking?

Are there siphon overflows rated for less than 600-700 gph? I need to get one for a refugium I'm setting up. But I want a much lower flow rate through the refugium and from what I've been told, I need to keep the siphon operating at close to maximum flow rate to avoid breaking the siphon.
