    Fish supply in south Fla?

I guess it depends how far south you are. There is a good store in Boca called the barrier reef. A little pricey on some stuff but still a good store.

    hair algea

There is some good advice above but by far the thing that has helped me with hair algae the most is manual removal. I used an algae cleaner purchased at the LFS that looks much like a bottle brush. I twisted the hair algae around the brush and pulled it up. It came off the rocks better then I...

What Does A Bristle Worm Sting Feel Like?

I got hit with a bristle while putting in some recently purchased LR. It hurt a little and you could see a bunch of clear bristles sticking out of my finger. I just kind of rubbed them out under running water and all was fine. As far as the mantis goes, fishermen call them thumb splitters for a...

    Perc. Clown Question

Currently I have a pair of percs and a Seabae in a 55. The Seabae was one of the first SW fish I owned and has been with me over 5 years. Next came 1 of the percs. To my surprise there was no fighting. Next came the other perc. There was no fighting with the Seabae but the 2 percs fought like...

    Protien skimmer

You do not need one and in fact many people here run successful tanks without them. They do help with removing disolved organcs though which could eventually turn into nitrates. I run one and at this time would not even think about removing it as I feel it is a great benefit to my tank.

    How old is your tank?

Got my 29 about 7 years ago, it was FW then. About 2 years later I switched the 29 to SW after a friend said I could make the switch for a few dollars. Yeah right. Over a year ago I added more LR, started adding corals, upgraded the lights and went reef. About 6 months ago all the contents of...

I believe the round black dot you are talking about appears when you have participated in a thread.

    Current lovin' LPS...

Of my experience with the above mentioned corals I would say the torch would be the happiest in a direct current, followed by the hammer, the bubble and then the softies.

    changing over from freshwater

I changed from fresh to salt with my 29 over 5 years ago. I decided to play it safe, I gave my FW fish away and cleaned out the tank well. I bought a new filter, new substrate, new lights, and added LR. Just my opinion but I feel it was the best way to go.

    Powerhead

Yep. I will agree that the hagens are darn good power heads. I currently run a 55 with 2 301's The 802 may be a little much for your tank if you run it wide open but they do have adjustable flow rates.

    Making my tank look real

I agree with others, get some more rock. What I did was just spent a few hours moving the rock around until I finally got it the way I wanted.

question on protein skimmer, please help

Did you try adjusting the air wide open? It sounds like your skimmer is getting too much water and not enough air bubbles. Mine will fill up too fast if it is not getting enough air.

    Anyone Reduced Nitrates Effectively?

A while back I admit I neglected my tank for a long time. When I did get around to testing my water that is when I found nitrates off the chart. It took a long time to get the nitrates down to a decent level. I did 10% water changes 3 times a week and vacuumed the CC everytime. i finally got the...

    PH problems

Not everyone will be familiar with the hagen test kit colors and what level they read. You may want to post the actual reading so others will understand your problem a little better.

skimmer noise driving me crazy ...

If the noise bothers you I dont see any major problems with turning the skimmer off at night. The 1200 pump for the skimmer is a little noisy. I found that by placing a small piece of foam between the skimmer (at the bottom) and the tank helped eliminate some of the vibration noise but there...

    open brain

Sounds like you may have a red open brain and like others above have said I keep mine in the sand bed. Check out mine or broomer's pictures to see a couple of red open brains by clicking on the little house above our posts.

    Which one is culprit??

If I had to guess I would say the star. Those guys can be ruthless and eat everything in their path including other stars.

Any other opinions on Hang on Refugiums?

I use an ecosystem with miracle mub. I give it a good rating. Not much space in the back but seems to be enough to get the job done.

    Confused by cameras

I use a sony and am very pleased with it. I forget the actual name but it has a large display and pictures can be stored on disk or memory card. Pictures on the card are of better quality but sometimes using the disk is more convenient. You can view some pictures I took with it by clicking the...
