Hello, I have been trying to figure out why I have lost my inverts. (fish are fine. ) People on this board suggested testing for copper. (I live in a hard water area). I did not detedt any copper with the salifert test. I dropped in a poly filter, and 3 days later, its BRIGHT blue. any ideas??

well..First off. I would like to thank everyone for the responses...however, I am EXTREMLEY frustrated to report, I just got home with my new salifert copper test, and have 0 traces of copper in my tank water, ro water, OR tap water... what else can it be??????? I am ready to pull my hair out!!!

phosphate tests at .5....kinda high, huh?

It's funny you mention the sand bed....I noticed it has been full of bubbles recently..they are slowly rising to the top. I wonder is this could have anything to do with it..I will go check phosfates again right now...

Is it possible to still have copper in top-off water even if I am running a ro/di unit? I have lost ALL of my inverts, fish seem fine. All other parameters are normal. (do not own a copper test). This was an established tank, and has been set back up in a different city with very hard water...

ok, how about this theory...I am in an area that has very hard water. (I beleive it is well water) allthough I do have a large water softener (about the size of a hot water heater) and top off with a kent marine ro/di unit, can copper be present in hard water conditions? and would a eo/di unit...

if I have never added it, how could I have it in the tank? I always thought copper was something you added to treat a sick fish? Can it just show up in the system?

Thanks for the response. I do have a ro/di unit, and just tested the water directly from it. it tested 0. So, I guess something is going on IN the tank.

After testing my water today, I noticed I have an unusuallly high phosphate level. It's .5. everything else is ok. What can cause this? is it harmfull? how can I lower it? Thanks!
