I have the same skimmer and have had this problem when I was cleaning it. try one of two thinks first make sure the back filter that is at the end of one of the tubes that id conected to the pump and I would also try turning the adapter that all the air line tubes are conected to. that might...

Well it depends on how much sand you have in there right now I would say keep about 1inch of the sand you have now and then put your new sand on top of that. i would say make you sand bed about 2-3inchs that should be good.

i think the sand shifter would do a good job or did you already get rid of it. Why did you wont thre sand shifter in your tank anymore?
