    burnt tips

I do not think it is flow, I have a 180 with 2 tunze 6200, a mag 12 for return and a closed loop with Iwaki 100, my lighting is 3 phoenix 250 14 k DE and 4 39 w actinic T5's. The algae is more like diatoms and not green algae. The PE is still good on the corals affected and you can see them sway...

I have noticed lately some of my SPS appear to havew burnt tips, then they get a brown film algae, the rest of the coral looks fine it is just the tips. I checked my water and everything remains as normal alk 9.6, cal 430, ph 8.1 0 nitrates. Waiting on new phosphate kit. I use RODI make-up...

    C02 accumulation

I have tried that, but the C02 concentration in the air prevents the transfer of C02 from the water. In the spring when I can open windows the PH rises. My alk is 11.2 and cal is around 400 usually. I rplace all evaporated water with kalk, but still PH stays between 7.8 and 8.05. But when I take...

    Refugium lighting

I leave mine on reverse of the display, I once had it on 24/7 but discovered if I had a time when lights were out my pod population multiplied better.

    C02 accumulation

I have determined that my PH is low due to excess C02, my house is built too tight and the air is not circulated well enough to remove C02 builup. Since opening a window is not a option(too cold outside) is there a product that can safely remove C02 from the tank? I know this is a common problem...

    hawk fish

I have read alot about flame hawks and there likely hood of eating shrimp and small inverts, but not much about small fish? Do you think a Flame Hawk would make a quick meal out of a neon goby? I would like a Hawk but not if it means I cannot have any cleaners in my reef (shrimp or gobies). Thanks

    Mag drive pumps

I am looking into buying a new pump for my closed loop, this will be an external pump. I want a magnetic drive so I will not have to worry about leaks. I have been looking at the Iwaki MD100RLT and the Mag36. Does anyone have any experience with either of these pumps? Are they relatively quiet...

    light fixture

I have a Aqua Starlight 72" fixture, the unit weighs about 50lbs because the ballast are built in. I want to build a wood structure on top of the tank to set the light unit on. My concern is the weight and will this weight in any way hurt the tank. The tank is 180 gal all glass. I would think...

    GSP out of control

I am looking for suggestions on limiting the spreading of GSP. My tank has mostly large pieces of live rock and my colony of GSP are spreading rapidly. Because the rocks that the GSP are on are at the bottom removing the rock is not really an option. I was wondering if I could place some corals...

    HQI lifespan

I switched my lighting to 250 watt HQI from 175 watt moguls, I was told that the HQI bulbs would not need replacing for 2 years. I replaced the moguls every year so I am skeptical about this claim. Does anyone here have any experience with the HQI bulbs lasting that long:notsure: Thanks

    keeping fish food

Curious to know how long do most people keep there fish food before throwing it out. I was told to not keep flakes, algae sheets or any non frozen food more then a few months. Does this sound correct?:notsure:

    Richmond VA Area?

IMO Fish world on southside is the best one in Richmond, it is on Busy Street. I have a reef tank and live near Richmond(Ashland). Azalea Aquarium is also fine but they do not have the selections that Fish World offers.

    cal reactor

Yes, mine is around 8.1 during daytime peak and to 7.9 at night, but all corals are growing like weeds, This seems to be the norm for everyone I know running reactors.

    cal reactor

Be patient and make small adjustments, then wait at least 24 hours before making test of effluent then if needed make another small adjustment. Mine works best if i keep a steady bubble count (CO2) and adjust the water flow coming out of the reactor, but it took a few weeks to start seeing my...

    Attn: chiller owners

Is your tank on the ground floor? Do you have a crawl space under your house. I installed my chiller in the crawl space and drilled two holes under my tank next to the sump (one for a feed hose the other a return), I have a pump that sends water to the chiller and back. This way the holes are...
