Hey guys, Been a long while since I posted on here but I need some suggestions. I have a 90g with built in overflow and a 29g sump. I started remodeling the kitchen last week and put Pergo flooring down. Now my wife wants to replace the carpet in the livingroom with the same Pergo. Only...

    Todastool question

Just my opinion but with what looks like such a small piece connecting the 2 I would just snip it off right there in the tank and then move the one that is not attached. To me it looks like the piece connecting them is about the size if not smaller than a pencil.

    Building an MH Lighting fixture

Not sure if we have anymore of them at work or not but I can check. The ones I used were broken and it was cheaper to replace than fix. How many would you need?

    Building an MH Lighting fixture

You can do it a couple of ways. If your going to run the ballasts on a timer you can wire the fan to the Black and White wires that connect to the ballast. If your not going to run the ballasts on a timer then you want to connect the Positive wire of the fan to the OUT side if the switch and...

    Fat clown

Do Clowns get fat before they spawn? I have a single false perc and today I noticed that she is huge. Her belly area is like twice the normal size. I have not been feeding any different. I tried to get a picture but she is just too fast. I don't quite know how to say this but there is also...

    Building an MH Lighting fixture

The boxes I used were old microscope light sourse boxes and they already had fans built into them. As far as the Cap brackets go you can kinda see in the picture labeled Plug to Ballast. All it is is a circle bracket that goes around the Cap and then has little tabs that get screwed down. If...

    Question about wattage...

From what I've been told you cannot run 175's on 250's. I couldn't tell you exactly why just that you can't.

    Building an MH Lighting fixture

Not sure about your local Home Depot but I was unable to get the ballasts from them. I had to go to an Electrical Supply shop called Blazer Electrics. They mainly sell to contractors but a little finesse and I walked out with what I needed.

    Building an MH Lighting fixture

I cut the green wire from the power cord that went to the Mogal socket. There is only 2 wires coming off the Mogal socket. The wire that connects to the bottom of the bulb and the one that connects to the side of the bulb. Both outlets by the tank that I use are GFCI outlets. I didn't use...

Building a 125 stand. How much span?

I would say you should be pretty safe using a 2X8 to span 48" with no problem. If you layed upright like a header it should be more than strond enough to span the entire length.

    Building an MH Lighting fixture

Depending on how much work you want to do I could sent you instructions and pictures on how to build MH's from scratch. I went to an electrical supply store and bought the ballasts and wired everything myself. All together I believe I spent $200.00 for everything including bulbs. Let me know.

    diy moonlights

If you have an old Cell Phone charger, they work great. Most only have a 3.9v to 5.0v output. Let me check with my Engineer at work, he can tell me exactly what size resistor you should use for the power supplies you already have.

    diy moonlights

What are planning to use for the power supply and what is the output voltage of it. That would help determine what size resistor. BTW are these the LED's from Radio Shack? The description sounds the same as the one's I used from Radio Shack and I think I used 68 ohm resistors.

Upgrading to MH lighting -- some questions

I agree with Golfish. I just put 2 250W MH in my wood canopy for my 55. After having the lights on for about 45 minutes the wood was so hot I couldn't touch it and it had a burning smell. I put som 5/8" spacers between the reflector and canopy and everything is fine now.
